Let me see if I have learned anything from Reddy’s essay … I will open my mouth again … in English …and try to avoid starting a conflict.
Let me try to draw a picture … with words … in an attempt to set the ‘stage’ for this particular thought.
Two strangers met in Nazareth Israel … in a hostel … in the basement of a convent … near Easter.
In both cases the motivation that brought them to this place was financial … it was cheap accommodation.
One of the strangers was myself … a self proclaimed itinerant student of life … the other stranger was an educated Israeli man … a PhD in mathematics and finishing up his PhD in philosophy.
The conversation waxed and waned … touching on several topics yet not penetrating any particular topic.
At one point vanity struck the itinerant student of life … he decided to challenge the educated man.
He recited a phrase he had read someplace … " A coincidence is a small miracle where God chooses to remain anonymous"
The educated man responded … “What is not coincidence?”
His answer may have been simply a ‘flippant’ response to what he considered a silly statement.
OTH … his answer may have reflected his deep personal convictions … yet today … I still don’t know … never saw him again after the encounter at the convent.
Seems after many years of contemplating this seemingly insignificant encounter with a stranger I’m warming up to his question.
W hat is not coincidence?
