confussed

hi guys…
I don’t know how to make what I’m about to say understandable…
but I’ll try…

I’m really confussed about the purpose of it all…I’m like, ‘what are we to do?’ but not in the sense that is usually asked…like ’ are we to be religious or materialistic’ or ’ are we to be absolutists or relativists ethically’ or ‘are we to be good or evil, or none’…

I ask this more in the sense of… what is worth it? what are we to defend with our lifes?..
I feel there is something really… special and inocent inside every human being…that thing which makes us be creative and fight for what we think is right at any given moment disregarding our lifes. (think of anything you enjoy and anyone you admire)

there is a really cool post in another thread which says something like evolution is not only adaptation, but also creativity and a display of beauty.

I think the evolution of the human mind and human history are the same…
there is beauty in courage, and in revolutions, not for the sake of revolt (like most leftists think today) but revolution for the sake of freedom of expresion and for a better world…for progress and for our ‘getting closer to truth’ whatever that may be and if it exists at all.
and people die for that… and a relativist could shun that saying that it’s not worth it…

I’m not advocating any absolute truth here… I’m just asking for opinions on…this feeling I have that there indeed IS something to defend, and to lose our lifes for… call it god if u wanna… or call it human spirit…
but to me that can be defined as ’ the spirit of being true to ourselves’…
so here you could group people like lavey and jesus, and the ‘founding fathers’ of the US, rock stars (real ones), artists in general, and common people that don’t care about what others say, and live the life they want.

So… I don’t know about absolute truths about the universe, or metaphysics, or theology… but I know about a truth that seems absolute to me, and its the ‘‘will to power’’ of the human spirit… the will to create and to be willing to die for what we create.

basically what I’m asking is that… should we ‘go with the flow’ (society is based on this).
or should we ‘listen to our hearts’ even if what they tell us can get us in a lot of trouble…

and what about situations where people try to convince you of whats best for you or that you are ok but you just feel deep inside that there is a better life for you out there (or in the place where you are, but behaving differently).

this all sounded so cliché… like ‘should we be rebels’, but what I have in mind is something really different, which I think can’t be expressed in words…

what is to be valued? anything in particular? whatever anyone wants? nothing?..
family? intelectual/artistic expression and creation?being an ant to society? learning? teaching? feeling? trying to change what is wrong or taking it with patience?
what has value? what is the best choice? I’m so confussed…

choosing to make the choice is the best option

Health?

Heavenly,

I don’t think anybody can answer this question for you really, but I can tell you my perspective.

Recently, I was faced with either sticking with my guns and going with the truth to my immediate detriment, or lying for some personal gain. Do you do the right thing when there is no reward, or do you lie and gain a little piece of comfort?

Decisions, Decisions right? I didn’t grapple with it for very long. I resolved very quickly that doing the right thing is the right thing to do because it is the right thing. Why? I can’t say. It’s what I believe in some very fundamental way.

The purpose, if there is such a thing, I think, is to find those principles on which you stand for whatever reason it is that you stand for them.

what? :astonished:

nah! j/k I get it… :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree with you, there’s something about doing ‘the right thing’ (not the cliche right thing as in ‘be a saint’, but the thing that feels true to your heart)
it feels better to go with what you feel is true even if you have to risk your life for it… that’s what I meant when I praised the human ‘will’ and creativity…

the problem is that what feels true for one may be the opposite of what feels ‘true’ for another…so I guess our goals and interests will always be conflicting…

who can say all of their relationships have been prefect? I guess noone… we’ve all been through some difficulties in dealing with others…
and with our sense of responsibility to them even when this turns into an unfounded guilt some people use to stop you from succeding.

going with the flow.
In how we choose to define ourselves we find flows to go with. It usually depends on your goals in life. If your goal is to fit in and be apart of the crowd,… you’ll do what the croud does. If your spiritually saticfied, your natural buaty will shine out. Your comfort will allow the style you choose to sell. Your love will be your guide.

Loving God. It’s the most fundamental and basic source of spiritual contentness. Building up deamons in your closet from neglect will weigh on your soul. Demeanor or ora!?!? It’s a concept that has deep roots. It’s an idea of who you are as of personality. If you are right with God your demeanor will be content, and able to take things at stride. Then God can guide you to your hearts desires that are in tune with God’s. Preachers have always said we should just drive and listen to God to tell us left or right. In this sometimes we just need to focus on something till we figure it out. Motivation comes with hope and joy. Yet love is greater then this. And the love of God is infinate. The practicality of God is to boost your good intentions.

For people with problems I sugjest goddly growth groups like prayer groups and biblical courses. Then finding connections with causes in the church. Get involved with community, and practice love.

Praying to god builds a relationship. It’s routine that’s important. People will pray for their enemies. In this they may find themselves praqying for their enemies to die. Yet if they do it every day,… envoking the name of God will slowly allow his presance to change your heart. A woman who was raped prayed about it, and every time she thought back to those times,… the presance of God filled her heart and changed her memories. The peace of the Holy Spirit, and the identity of God instead of the raper,… it allowed her section of the brain that stores all of the sex thoughts to be pure again so no identity complexes form with her spouce. Just bottleing up these things hides the problem and hopes it doesn’t get stimulated again.

So think, how can god help you evolve as a person. You are only limited by your will to start a healthy cycle.

u may be right… I actually liked what you said when I ommited the word Jesus and thought of God as something else… not the anthropomorphical God of christianity…

but what if god to me is not the ‘holly father’ but something to fight for, an ideal…
like, the ideal of the equality of races, or the ideal of a free society (free speech, free market and trade)…
the ideal of creativity and originality, basically the ideals that Ayn Rand had in mind…
the desire to overcome your obstacles (which can be people ) and go for what you want and for what you think will make the world a more sincere and fair place.

for example, if you see your parents push religin on you but they don’t behave like that religion says at all, if you comply, you are supporting hypocresy and you are being part of a religion that harms the world.
but if you rebel agains that, you open the way for a new line of thought that is sincere and will be better for the whole world.
because in this world, I guess it’s all about conflicting interests…
and we should always be on the side of sincerity, and be able to say ‘I don’t know’ when that’s the case, and always try to overcome ourselves.
and help others do it too.
