Contemporary creation-myth-making

Interesting things, creation myths (I’m surprised there wasn’t already a thread on 'em). People are curious, and they want to know “how it all began”, so clever people invent stories that supply the answer. These stories, or myths, aren’t completely random, but are designed to “fit in” with the people’s current best knowledge and understanding of their world. When they get rumbled as fakes (e.g. because it’s found that there’s actually nothing at the top of Mountain X), they get modified or replaced, so a good strategy by the myth-maker is to be very hard to disprove. And if the myth can be presented in a form that the majority of the people can’t understand, so much the better.

Creation-myth making was common in ancient times, but it’s always been going on. The following, for example, was invented quite recently:

Has anyone else found any modern creation myths? If so, please add them to this thread.

String Theory.

I can’t argue with that!

Hawking Radiation.

Multi-verse, and prior to that the Big Bang “myth”.

Multiverse theory = fæces

The Big Bang isn’t a myth. It has nothing to do with a religion. As a proposition of modern cosmology, it carries quite a bit of weight. Yet, as a scientific theory, it is also subject to criticism and change as new observations and discoveries are made… unlike the absoluteness that a “myth” carries in the minds of the “spiritually certain.”

Like some posters here, I also dislike string/M theory and the notion of multiple universes, for two reasons. It violates Ockham’s law of parsimony, and simpler science actually works to explain everything I have been searching to find answers for.

Intelligent Design

Ancient Aliens

Time machine.
