How important is intelectual compatibility in a long term relationship?
Extremely… I’m not even turned on by very hot women anymore unless I find their thoughts interesting…
Same goes for dudes with me. If his brain isn’t up to scratch, then i’d get bored way to quickly. like those guys who live on protein shakes and spend far too much time in teh gym. YAWN.

Beautiful dumb women are great for one night or two but beyond friendship with benefits I wouldn’t want to get married to one.

No. My happiness requires a lot more than a pretty face. I can, in fact, carry on a very deep conversation, and if my partner in a relationship is incapable of swimming in the deep end… well suffice to say I’d hate to be found guilty of a proverbial drowning.
Well, He is more intelligent than I am in certain areas and I am more intelligent than he is in certain areas, In some areas we are both woefully ignorant and in some we are level. We also have different beliefs, personalities. If it works don’t fix it, if it don’t, leave it before you commit to it.

I am fairly dumb myself, but seeking young, dumb, homely lonely, and insecure women has kept in short term relationships.
You’re painting a broad brush. I work out and drink protein shakes and consider myself reasonably intelligent. In my free time I read, use the internet(NOT myspace-type sites) and work out.
There do seem to be some “meat head” types, but if you actually talk to some of them, you’d be surprised that many are actually articulate and lack over-inflated egos. But, alas, I have met my share of dumbasses who have what most women would consider attractive physiques and do obsessively work out.
The only girl I’ve ever been in love with was quite a gump. She had a great soul though. 
Yes, possibly a broad brush - but i’m talking about people i have dated, and i happend to have dated a few meatheads. Who i didnt think were quite as meaty as they turned out to be when you really got down to it. I’m by no means saying those who drink protein shakes are automatically going to be thick (btw, there’s a better way to bulk up than protein shakes… ). I find the gym incredibly dull, and would rather excercise through other means (which i do). I find it hilarious in gyms when you get these dudes who stare at themeselves in the mirror, and do everything but kiss their ‘guns’ LMAO.
I don’t even find the dumb ones attractive in the first place.
There is something about a mediocre mind that imprints itself on the outward physical form; a kind of bovine, vacuous stupidity …

i had a relationship that didn’t work out… she seemed clever at first but it turned out she was a dud…

That depends on what you want in a long-term relationship… and the nature of the relationship.
I suspect that few people get everything that they want in the way of human interaction from one person.
I think compatibility of fundamental core values are probably the most important factor in determining the likely ‘success’ of a relationship.
Having said that, intelligence is certainly is inevitably high on the list of ‘must have’ attributes, when I’m considering someone of the role of ‘potential relationship’ partner.
