From another female’s point of view, mine, I’d say top right-hand corner…close-up of three. It’s kind of solemn, pensive, reflective. But of course, it would depend on the message you’re trying to convey or who you see yourself as.
You should have something that’s not a picture of you as an avatar.
Not saying anything about your appearance, you’re lovely, I just don’t really have a place in my heart for avatars that are pictures of the posters themselves. I can’t explain why but I find it strange, or maybe I find it annoying, I’m not sure which. Especially when they’re just totally normal or even below-normal quality, taken from a camera phone or something equally lazy. I’ve seen some avatars that were portraits of the posters themselves that I like, but they were stylized, not just a plain lazy photo.
One thing I do get a bit frustrated about is not being able to see people’s avatars, since I’m sure it helps to know what the person looks like that you’re talking to.
Well, let’s see, if you look closely you’ll realize that the ‘j’ is the same shape as the ‘f’ but rotated, minus a couple lines. So the avatar in that sense has aesthetic unity and a semblance of balance and off-kilter symmetry.
Mostly it says that I spent some amount time in front of my computer messing with graphics programs to come up with some avatar that I barely like and nobody else even notices, but that I was subsequently too lazy to figure out something I liked more.
I kinda like your avatar, arc.
I don’t find that it helps in any way. Maybe some other people do though. Anybody else find that it helps to know what the poster looks like?
An avatar doesn’t necessarily show you what a person actually looks like - but one might show you more of who that person is.
How do you actually read, Maia? You may have put it in here somewhere but I haven’t read it.
True, but most people prefer to be annonymous on the net. People leave comments on other sites without profiles, but who are they? Some people post pictures that aren’t really them.
If there was a manditory, required internet ID, many would protest or try to avoid it. That your real picture is your avatar here is rare. Granted, I posted my picture in the photo thread.
I don’t expect people who dont use their real names to then match a photo to it. Seems a bit backward. Even though some do, I don’t claim to know anybody here.
Yours is a common frustration, at least on the web.
