I think the reality is more “datacentres in orbit” if Elon gets his way. As for transmitting data, I see the problem but it depends what the datacentres are used for. If it’s storing data long term, then in the event of a cataclysm on earth, a record of humanity would be preserved. Dunno, I read about it somewhere.
