Oprah, are you proposing that compassion has not contributed to the steady decline of health, intelligence, and responsibility in many people?
Is compassion always a good thing?
More people than not exploit the principle and rely on compassion as an excuse to fail, to lower one’s expectations of oneself…to lose that natural desire to want impress our companions because they tend to tolerate us:
“Well I am gaining weight, but its what’s inside that counts, etc.”
“Well I did lose my job because I’m lazy, but its what’s inside that counts, etc.”
I am not suggesting that compassion is wrong in any way. I only want you to note that it can be dangerous.
I have a friend who has a girlfriend who has a drug problem. After work, she stays out late at her sisters house and gets blasted sometimes, without calling him and telling him. This has happened several times. Yet each time it happens, after my friend draws a line in the sand, that line is bent by compassion and tolerance…“I forgive you, because its the heart that counts.”
Next week she’s out doing the same thing.
I didn’t say relationships are about heart. I said HOTNESS is about heart.
