How likely is it that in the future there may be the incapacity to make sense of what is saved on computers now due to decryption issues? Like say some one had a word document on their computer, the computer is recovered 10,000 years from now…somehow (thought I don’t think computers can even last that long…) then how would they now the decryption of the code that contained the documents…?
maybe they would have saved the appropriate software / hardware to be able to do that. it’s fairly likely, i think, that given the spread of modern software and hardware, pretty much all of the relevant stuff is going to continue to exist somewhere, even if only in a museum.
I would hope so but it seems as if that might be less likely than the preservation of something carved in stone…Maybe we need to find some way to carve the encryption data in stone…like with lasers in diamond as well as mark in noticeable languages and formats in larger symbols at a more obvious level that it is a decryption key…otherwise the tiny laser marks might not be looked for…
