i was just starting descares meditiation and was wondering if anyone thought i should read his “discourse on method” first?
Yeah, me.
Me too
not me,
go ahead and read it now, then re-read it / re-think it after you read his discourse. really, maybe just a read an overview of his philosophical system first.
i’d suggest either wikipedia or the stanford philosophy encyclopedia.
I still say read it. It’s what Descartes would have wanted.
Plus, it’s relatively short and it has this funny passage where it says that while a man is in the process of building a new house from scratch, he still needs a temporary roof over his head, so he won’t be cold. Or something like that. This analogy allows him to justify his need to resort to a temporary set of rules to abide to, until he finishes polishing his own. Go figure…
