Did Descartes base his whole foundation of knowledge on the application of the method of doubt? AND were his ideas of self existence and God’s existence what resulted from thsi foundation?..i’m a little lost and i’d really like to know if i’m on the right track…
Kind of. He first began to doubt until he could doubt no longer. He couldn’t doubt the idea that he was thinking, hence the famous phrase, “I think therefore I am”. He then proceeds to build his knowledge base from here.
His idea of ‘self-existence’ resulted from the idea that “he thinks, therefore he is”.
The idea of God resulted from the idea of ‘perfection’. He has an idea of perfection and that knowledge proceeds from this perfection, this ‘perfection’ was God.
