Unconscious act by producers, clever strategy to make character resonate with right wing viewers or propaganda ploy to further bias people against Obama? I think the second option is most likely. They were targeting the right wing demographic. Of course the devil is a black man. 
Caveat: I haven’t seen the show yet. And yes, this thread is most likely destined for mundane babel, but, The Bible series is making waves in popular religion, so reflective comment on it seems relevant. These kinds of media events influence popular conceptions of religious subject matter for better and more often for worse.

My cousin raved about “The Bible” series, so I watched it, or tried. The first part starts with Noah in the Ark. He’s reading the book of Genesis to his family. That’s where I couldn’t watch any more. The book of Genesis didn’t exist in Noah’s time.
It was clearly a propaganda ploy that, the Bible is the Word of God, and even Noah read it. What a bunch of evangelical hooey.
But it broke the ratings record for cable programming. It’s a hit with the Biblical naive.
I watched the first couple of episodes and it reminded me of a DeMille “bible” movie. It’s a cliff notes version that leaves out more than it includes - especially the controversial areas of the bible. I thought it was truly bogus to watch the fall of Jericho as a triumph while failing to mention that every living thing was killed and destroyed in that city by “God’s” people. Any relationship to the stories of the bible is accidental at best. It’s a whitewash job.
I have another hypothesis. I think the producers picked a guy who looks like Obama to play the devil in order to generate controversy or what thye call buzz which can increase the number of viewers. If so, they have succeeded for a moment.
I certainly see the resemblance. I bet 90% of it is the hood, though. If he wasn’t wearing that, his face would be a lighter shade from the sun and you’d be able to see his long, light-colored hair. This could be an unfortunate still shot, I’d like to see a video clip to really decide if it was on purpose.
He’s a Berber, not a black… theey’re mix race, which Obama coincidentally is (of a much different stock). North Africa in the Roman Times looked like him, with Nubians and Latins, and even fair skin goths mixed in at times. The attack that black = devil is bullshit, they went with a well known actor who played satan in the past, prior to Obama taking power. This isn’t a race issue, it’s a facial issue. Most black people in america do NOT LOOK LIKE OBAMA.
This being said, the guy was recruited for his less than angelic looks… and he looks the part. It’s bad for Obama on one hand he looks like a guy who’s been typedcast as the devil for years.
However, none the less, it’s all possible. Obama’s actions certainly fit the bill of a satanist. The country has been bombarded with people making fucked up images of the last president on the basis he looked like a monkey- but we couldn’t do that with Obama- despite his obvious monkey ears, because it was ‘racist’… monkey = dumb, I think Obama = Evil stands on equal grounds.
Ask a liberal on this forum- Was Bush stupid? They will say yes. Ask a person who supports democracy ‘Is Obama a Evil Tyrant?’ and they will say yes.
Both sides have a point of view, and now we can both make facial mockery of the other sides man, on equal grounds, as far as our facial stereotypes are concerned. That’s equality.

And I’ve been quite outspoken on Obama as a anti-christian for some time… he does in many points fit the bill of a anti-christ. However… you make a overassumption in regards to me THINKING he is the anti-christ… I’m doubtful that the book of revelations is a legit book in the first place. Possibility of the book being real? Yes… but the stuff that is suppose to be happening in Asia Minor isn’t happening, so I am doubtful about this. None the less, it’s saturated in the Christian outlook, and I’m not fond of anyone who invades countries because the Europeans really, really want us too… despite what they kept claiming the decade before… or who lets the economy go to absolute shit (economics is important in christianity), or advocates and funds mass infanticide on a level that would cause the Carthaginians to cry in horror. He doesn’t do anything positive, only negative… and fucks with everyone’s beliefs to get his own ends. No one benifits from him. He does fit the image of a satan moving behind the scenes.
So- stop the racism on your end… the actor is NOT BLACK, yes, he’s mixed race, but not the same mix as Obama. He’s a actor who has played Satan in the past. He’s good at it, and looks the part… the coincidence goes the otherway… why Obama happens to look like a actor who’s career is typecast as the face of evil. I also would like to point out I haven’t watched the history channel in years… it’s a embarrassment to history. I only know this information because I saw it on the news, and did research on the actor because I knew the suicide-artists on this forum would cry about it. How dare the right do to innocent, blameless Obama what the left did for 8 years to Bush. You got even the racism wrong here, the actor’s ancestors were Semitic, Romans and Arabs, not Kenyan hunter-gather tribes singing the songs to the Lion King movie. Wrong part of Africa, big expanse between, the racist angle doesn’t fit. My take on the actual topic is that it’s truly just coincidence.
I just took the opportunity to spew History Channel hate, and more specifically the Bible Series and the pile of trash that it is.
It belongs on something like the BYU channel.
I don’t suppose that casting an actor that looks like Obama in a hoodie is politically motivated. Like I said before, I think they did it to create buzz. Even if the guy doesn’t actually look like Obama in other settings, he does in that picture and that’s the one that has gone viral. The producers may have had one of their publicists contact Glen Beck to seed the idea. Buzz like this draws in viewers. If I’m right, it wasn’t religiously motivated either. But television and movie portrayals of religious stories do affect how people think about these stories. I’m expecting to see a CGI extravaganza like the mini-series versions of Merlin or Jason and the Argonauts or a made-for-TV disaster flick.
