There is no “government”
we are it
it is you who must convince yourself
to obey your own common sense
What? Obesity represents a moral failing and ought be discouraged.
No need. I’m in great shape - an am active often, as it suits me and my schedule. It is I that must resist “common sense” zealots like yourself who delude themselves into believing they have the right to force me to do the things that I already do. Whether some individuals do or do not act in their own long term interests - is a secondary issue.
Far better in every way to encourage exercise
If you don’t see this
suit yourself
Any claim that I am personally trying to force anything on anyone
is plain stupid
all i have done is make a proposal
which, as far as I am concerned
makes more sense than any I have ever heard on this subject
if a majority ever get to adopt it
that is another matter
you can start your revolt then
Sure, I agree it is better to lead through virtue than it is to enforce through punishment. The problem is that we already have people leading by virtue and it has proven insufficient. In no small part because the consumerist culture that is promoting one is driving the other. What with negative moral exemplars like fat acceptance groups on the rise, I don’t think it is out of the question to put the breaks on the situation. A carrot is always better than a stick, but when people have so totally lost sight of the carrot I don’t think the stick is out of the question.
and i am pleased to see
that you see that
which is why I suggest we tap into the Collective Psyche
we are lazy apes at heart
nobody likes exercise
even though the reward is good health and better eating habits
We all have a deeply imprinted work ethic
as a well as a sharing ethic
if we all share exercise time together
it makes it easier and more fun
I once rode the Bullet train across Tokyo
the roof tops of many corporate buildings were crowded with workers
doing calisthenics
The Japs know how to marshall collective effort
My God is Compassion
that quality encompasses carrot and stick
correction it is all about right attitude
I don’t think people are lazy, quite the contrary. But I do think we tend to get lost in the specifics at the expense of the general – this is particularly true nowadays since our current system drives hyper-specialization.
Very true
to the point of forgetting how inter-dependent we are
Good life and good health are inter-related
they lead to good attitude
and a successful society
no single issue is more important
therefore I repeat
we are experiencing an epidemic of obesity
and the food industry is feeding it
we need to evoke the general will
not via the current superficial arguments
about insurance, doctors and money
but by concentrating on exercise as a general cure
it costs us nothing
and gives us everything
