Different kinds of intellect

I know i suck at grammar… sorry

i’m kind of a strange person intellectually. I lack some common sense sometimes, sometimes a lot. I’ve been wondering what kind of brain problems i have (or however you want to call it).

For instance my teacher asked me what weighed more, a pound of gold or a pound of feathers, i said gold.

“Is there a 4th of July in England?” You get the idea.

altough im fairly intelligent when it comes to school. I get straight a’s, 100’s on math and chemistry tests and such. (nothing all that impressive though)

and on a relatively different subject i have been debating with myself heavily. I compare myself to one of my friends. He is also smart, but the main difference between he and i is that he knows a lot more than i do. Just about random things, everything, execpt perhaps science.

most people seem to think that that means he is smarter than me, its not like he has more education, we’re in highschool. It is entirely possible that he is smarter. Although in grades i actually beat him usually. We study roughly the same amount. Usually one thinks knowledge means you have good memory.

my question is why does he know so much more than i do, i know hes not that much smarter than i am.

I believe that i am very unobservative and i have a very odd thing were
i don’t really remember things unless i think i should.

for instance, my sister drove me to school all year last year and every day she would have to remind to lock the door of her car, every single day i would forget, for the whole first semester. Then one day she said when will you ever remember to shut the door? I never did forget again. I think that i didn’t think about shutting the door so i didnt remember, when she told me to it was kind of automatic until she told me i didnt remember.

I may sound like someone whos trying to make any excuse and isnt smart. But i usually beat him in school assignments, he just knows a lot more. Is it possible i just dont remember things unless i think about it?

p.s. we tied on an iq test

im being a bit lengthy i think but i have one more thing to say.

Is it just me or does it seem like the people that know more usually are the people that have bigger vocabs and are better at reading. Now im going to make a preference to ISAt test (kinda sorts like ACt’s but tooken by whole school.) It seems to me that the people who score higher in the reading section generally have more knowledge. But if you score high in math it doesn’t neccesarily mean your knowledgeable. I know a guy that scores quite high at reading but not in math and he’s the kind of guy who knows vocab and generally knowledge(i mean like a breed of dog or who married jessica simpson.) But he doesnt read, and he isnt especiialy intelligent over all.

Back to comparing myself to my friend at school. He scored very high in reading, the highest in the class, but ok in math. I scored the highest math score, but only ok in reading. But he doesn’t read very much either. less than I do even.

To conclude and summarize…

It seems to me the people who are good at dealing with words know more, the people with numbers… just can still have good memories but not especialy know a lot. (of course some people are both)

is it possible i have to really think about something for me to learn? (in other words i can turn my brain off )

sorry for being so long.

My thoughts on the subject.

I think you’re right… intelligence is very very ambiguous.
