Flux? What kind of garbage is this? Sounds like TPN claptrap. Nietszcheans will rot your brain, infp.
Genes are the “metal of the soul”. They mostly “change” through sexual reproduction, and mating between males and females.
Radiation damage can also influence DNA, as well as genetic engineering. “Flux” is just stupid nonsense, garbage.
How do you know? I am exactly the same person I was 10 days ago. You cannot prove otherwise. Well, you’re welcome to try to convince me.
All living organism which successfully reproduce, endlessly, are already immortal. Your statement is unnecessary.
Immortality already exists, for a few special organisms (those that reproduce forever).
Anything that exists, even for a moment, exists absolutely.
If I’ve lived once, then I have lived forever in the past, in the future, and in space.
One existence, is absolute existence. Every moment is infinite in nature.
Your argument so far is: “You don’t remember your great grandparents. Ergo, they don’t exist.”
This is completely false, and I doubt anybody on this forum would take your side in that argument.
My great grandparents did exist. And I exist. And even if I die, I will have existed at one point in time, on Earth, in the Milky Way Galaxy, even if completely forgotten by all people and everything. One existence, one moment, is eternal. I have lived forever, because I have lived once. But my “immortality” is truly granted through successful, sexual reproduction, not memory of “me”.
I didn’t read this before I posted that other thing. It would seem to me, however that your genes are maybe only half you.
But even if they are all of you, you as an individual are not immortal, because each kid would be a combination of half you and half your mate. Eventually, when humans eventually evolve some day, and become 100 different species, or go extinct, or stop reproducing, your genetic code will have disapeared completely.
Would you accept that, assuming “I am my genes”, that any children I have may count as “100% me”. I mean, I don’t really accept that my children are only “50% me”. That doesn’t make any sense to me. Why not assume that a son or a daughter, are also 100% of both parent?
The union between Man and Woman also count as 100% father and 100% mother, in my eyes.
Let’s see where these assumptions take us, assuming you accept them. And if you don’t accept them, then why not.
Furthermore, I sincerely doubt that a parent, whether mother or father, will look at one of his/her children and think: “My son/daughter is only 50% me.”
I believe parents look at all their children and believe: “My children are 100% me.” Even if children may cling to one parent over another, prefer one parent over another, or adapt the personality of one parent over another.
If you say that your genes are what transport your soul to your children, then only half the soul is transported, because when the kid’s DNA is formed, it literally uses only 50% of your code. The other 50% is taken from the mother.
Okay then, let’s assume that “50% of my code” is the full essence of me.
What part of that DNA becomes “lost” over time?
Let’s say that my child is “50% me” and his child is “25%” me. Taking account for infinite regress, even after X generations, there should persist “0.01% me”.
So what is the essence of this “0.01% me” after X generations?
Do you see why this is silly? It makes more common sense for parents to claim “100%” of their children. And they do, without assumptions. Parents, at least the ones I know, don’t look at their children and think “Wow, child, you’re only __% me. My first son is 88.5% me. My second daughter is only 56% me. And my fifth son is 66.6% me.”
Because that doesn’t make any sense at all. Do you actually believe people think or feel this way??
Because if you don’t, then you don’t believe the point your asserting here.
I disagree…I believe my genes are the “builders of me”, and what most people refer to as “me”, is just their immediate Conscious awareness.
People mistakingly believe that “me” = “self-consciousness”. This is false. Because genes presuppose consciousness. You don’t have to be conscious in order to exist, hence infants and newborns who exist, but are not ‘conscious’ per se.
Not if I have children. My genes, who are “me”, exist through successful sexual reproduction, as noted in the presumptions of the OP.
Most people don’t consider their ‘me’ to be their genes.
You’re going to run into allot of disagreement if you switch meanings around like that with your words.
Entropy from the sun heats the earth.
The sun releases more energy than it absorbs.
Entropy fuels our existence instead of only destroying it.
If you had not noticed this yet, then hopefully i’ve done you a favor.
Entropy both gives and takes away.
Do you disagree though? I mean, why not assume this?
How did your genes arrive into “you”, Mister Walker, except the repeated sexual successes of all your ancestors combined?
I mean, aren’t you, the very life of you, the result of an ongoing success??
Maybe.
pezer, if you had children, then would you consider one of your children “100% you”, “50% you”, or perhaps something like “66.6% or 19% you”? And on what basis would you judge these percentages??
I mean, if you had a child with a woman, and then returned years later to your son/daughter, and their personality was completely opposite of yours, would you then judge them “less like you” based upon that difference of personality?
