This is a book I read about two years ago. It’s about a psycho-scientific project that was conducted by Rick Strassman ( The author of the book ) consisting of subjects being injected with the most potent psychedelic compound known to man: Dimethyltryptamine ( DMT ). The types of experiences are nuanced and bizarre. Most of them had life-changing effects on the subjects.
I’ve never tried DMT before - but would like to some day, when I can get my hands on it. I believe in using psychedelics for introspective, psycho-spiritual purposes, not for the mere sake of " getting high ". And not only that, I believe this practice should be done infrequently - once every blue moon, thus making the effect even more potent.
As a neo-pagan, I believe that psychedelics are spiritual forms of medicine munificently gifted by Nature to man.
If you’ve ever done mushrooms, you’ve done DMT, if you’ve ever dreamed or day-dreamed vividly, your brain has excreted DMT on its own. DMT by itself is over-rated since you don’t need to take it as a drug to experience it. I believed the same thing of mushies once, that once or twice every couple of years actually helps extend the mind and push it to explore itself if you go inward; introspective. And then, my brain started excreting it far more often after the doorway had already been opened for it. It kind of makes continual use through such hallucinogenics null and void as the long-term usage as provided by the brain is much more convenient and conducive to thought, though the lump sum experience of utilizing such a compound may very well be worth it. I had a friend on retail WoW that wanted to try DMT. After he did, he vanished completely from the game and said something about wanting to get back into nature, which he didn’t quite do as I managed to find him on Facebook and friend him and I see that he is still stuck in the rut of society like so many other people. Good friend, though; we had a lot of great philosophical conversations.
Pretty sure i’ve already seen the video for DMT spirit molecule. I also listen to Bill Hicks and Terence Mckenna who talk about it. As well as today’s Graham Hancock who I follow.
If I am not mistaken, it was you who introduced this book in one of the post.
I have downloaded and read it. It is definitely interesting.
As mentioned, DMT is found naturally in the human body in very varying minute amounts.
The central point is DMT is a sort of enhancer of our mental faculties involving altered [altering] states of consciousness. As an enhancer and catalyst, it trigger both ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ elements to the individual and therefrom humanity.
If one’s current brain states is primed for evil, pains, certain performances, etc, then, DMT may enhance this base evil, and vice versa for the good and pleasure. Thus there is no guarantee of a good trip all the time. There is also the danger of addictions and other negatives if one were to take it from external sources.
What I am optimistic is, due the exponential expansion of knowledge and technologies from various fields, there is a potential for humanity to modulate and regulate with precision manufacturing and secretion of DMT on a net-positive approach [with no side effects] and contributing to the optimal well being of the individual and therefrom humanity.
This is the base from where humanity can rely on the modulated, regulated, effective and targeted use of DMT and other mental enhancers in complementary with other relevant strategies and approaches to replace ALL religions to deal with the existential dilemma.
The shamanic religions of south america have been at it for a long time. Taking dmt in a religious setting is a lot more significant than alone in my experience. They use different preparations for services of concentration, healing, or joy, and conduct the theme and mood of the gathering accordingly, through the use of songs.
Phred, I’ve tried magic mushrooms before. From the testimonies of those, who have done DMT, it seems to be a radically different experience. DMT trips last about 10 minutes, while MM experiences last hours. During those 10 minutes, one is completely transported into a different realm. There are some similarities, but DMT, evidently, is much more intense.
Prismatic, yes - I recommended this book to you. Glad you read it. There is also a documentary on it ( great watch ).
Krissy, DMT is found in other organisms, too, yes. One could extract it from grass, but its most common source is from Mimosa hostilis: bark from a perennial tree in Brazil.
From what I’ve heard, it’s mostly theoretical — but in theory, it’s produced by the pineal gland. Large amounts are secreted during birth and during death, hence the proverbial " Near death experience " ( NDE ).
The molecules of psylocibin and dmt are very similar. There are some differences that seem to be associated with psylocibin’s property of being active by ingestion, whereas dmt requires extraction/consumption in combination with a MAOI.
The differences in the experience are more due to dosage than anything. Breathing the vapors of dmt crystals will yield a very intense and quick experience, while drinking a brew will yield a much longer and milder experience. Much like eating a large amount of mushrooms will make everything around you melt, but eating just a little just puts you in profound introspective thought.
The service masters of these cults know which concentration to use for each specific purpose that they aim to achieve with their congregation.
In Brazil the most common source is actually the leaves of a different plant called chacrona (Psychotria viridis). I think the use of jurema-preta is more common in the western portions of the Amazon forest. I could be wrong, but Daime, which is probably the biggest cult, definitely uses chacrona.
Bundleflower root has a high concentration of dmt, Kris. I’m sure you’ve seen this 'round your parts.
Plants sure, and I may have seen that plant, I live next to swamplands, but, other animals was my question. Interesting possibilities and explanations of things I have seen with animals.
Magic mushrooms are most potent when grown in horse or cow manure out in the fields. Interesting entertainment.
