Do Girls Like Clothes?

I have a serious question for the girls. Now, I know girls like clothes. Everyone knows that. But my question is, how much do girls REALLY like clothes. I mean, do they think/talk/research clothes about a million times more than men think they do? Is it an epidemic problem? Like, women KNOW men jerk off, but do women REALLY know to what extent men jerk off? I think not. They don’t know what men do in private, or certainly what men fantasize about, I mean, they know men fantasize, but they don’t really know to what extent, it would make them afraid, very afraid, or just nauseous.

So jokes aside, this one is for the girls. I want the truth. How much is it about the clothes. The fashion mags. The entertainment news shows. The stores and web sites and email newsletters. For real. How much, why, and what the fuck?

Hello there,

I’m obviously not a woman, I have no shoes worth more than 50 quid but this does interest me. Indeed one article I came across talked about the ‘division of labour’ in the home, stating that women spent more than twice the amount of time shopping that men did. Apparently looking at shoes that you’re never going to buy counts as domestic labour. Another thing for which we must thank feminism…

One also has to wonder why it is that women, who earn up to 17% less money over a lifetime compared to men, spend so much more. In the survey that I read (which is somewhat outdated, admittedly) it stated that women accounted for 80% of the spending on food, 78% of the childcare and school expenses, 85% of the spending on childrens clothes and so on. So, either these women must be in massive debt or they are just being given lots of money from one place or another. This would, of course, call into question the rather simplistic notion of ‘money earnt = money one has personally’ but newspapers overlook that because ‘women earn 17% less than men’ is a better (more sellable) headline than ‘women earn less because they work less but still live as comfortable lives as men’).

It also appears that women simply buy more items than men, more small things in particular. This is something I don’t really grasp, I’ve seen women much more than men buying twiddly pieces of crap that they don’t want and will probably never notice.

This made me chuckle. That’s a lot of fookin’ shoes…

Men aren’t as bad, but still account for a lot of (I presume) jeans and shirts.

I don’t have a clothes fetish but, then I was surround by males during the crucial formative shopping years of my teens. I never learned to appreciate the effort males do in order to satisfy the female lust for decorating and creating an inviting eviroment for their males.

Don’t you find it odd that it is the males that complain about female shopping and yet is the males that are the ones that make the majority of the items women must have. If women did not purchase so many clothes and things, think of how many males would be unemployed. You all brought this on yourselves, when you decided to be the hunters and the female the homemakers. And lets not forget the all important mating rituals , you all want that eye candy.

I think that these ‘hunter-gather’ ‘mating ritual’ metaphors are a load of claptrap. I’m not a dog in season for fuck’s sake…

hmmm, I HATE SHOPPING, witha passion, hate it hate hate it, but I think this is because of the depression of not being able to afford what I want. However when I do buy something it’s a happy feeling. I think the reason lots of girls like shopping is because it’s a communal event, you all go out together, you make each other try on the most disgusting clothes, fun fun fun. Plus trying on clothes is fun, especiall if you know you have the money to buy stuff.
I’ma shoes girl, I have many many shoes, BUT I wear all of them, regularly (being a bit short high heels are a must in the evenings, and then i need day shoes as well).

I actually seem to have accumulated loads of dresses, but this came of being an arm child and always having to attend dress worthy events. yay, so that was less of a fetish and more of a necessity.

every girl I know loves buying underwear, it’s just fun!!!

as for the mags, I don’t know many girls who read magaizines for the fashion itself but I might be wrong, It’s not like men wanking, I don’t fantasise about shopping or shoes, I don’t need to do it regularly, i certainly don’t

clothes :astonished:

but they’re fun. men tend to appreciate them.

what men really need to understand about women and clothes, is that although shopping is fun… what’s better is gifts, and what is even better is a trip where we can try on stuff and you buy us our favourite.

This is exactly what I’m talking about. It makes me slightly sad that someone of your intelligence would be so easily led into unproductive binary relationships. I have to say that you don’t appear overwhelmingly happy and I’d guess (nothing more than that) that characterising yourself and your relationships via obstructive stereotypes may (only may) be part of that.

Actually, the shopping is just a ruse.

We’re really into far more interesting things, like watering our plants with menstrual blood and ritualistically writhing around naked in…oh…I’ve said too much already.

You boys have no idea!

 I knew it!!! Nobody would believe me but I knew it!

Woman are largely responsible for the intensity of Consumer Culture!! Any excuse for shopping. If you don’t believe me, do a bit of detective work in your Wives/Daughters/Nieces Wardrobe-come-tabernacle. There you will find a large collection of dresses for all ocassions, as well as these dresses becoming a kind of museum for past events, passed sizes, clothes that woman simply won’t get rid of because they are percieved as ‘precious’ one way or another. Scroll down the wardrobe onto the floor and you will see shelves filled with all kind of feet, as if perhaps for some kind of anarchic Centipede to wear all at once, high-heels, trains, evening wear, boots…and, once again, an entire museum of footwear.

Why do so many woman get comfort from excessive consumption? An impossible question perhaps. If you are host to an over-zealous female shopper in your family then it is an easy bet that your wardrobe too, will be packed to the hilt with every piece of clothing imaginable.

I reckon there would be enough excess clothing in most local areas to fit an entire small nation in some gfar flung region of the world. It’s damn irresponsible to shop as though there was no tomorrow or as if you would be buried up right!

Honestly, WOMAN STOP SHOPPING SO MUCH! And I won’t even begin to get irate about the MEN WHO SHOP LIKE WOMAN! I personally have far too many clothes…I tend to buy cheap clothes, from cheap shops, because they are much more sincere garments…i.e. a bit shabby, worn and torn and they hold up over time!

You have nothing to loose
but your Credit Cards!

Hello all,

I love clothes, but despise shopping with a passion. I buy everything in vintage stores or eBay. Designer shoes for $4.95, one-of-a-kind necklaces for $2.00. The internet has changed my life and if I can find a site with free shipping, I am all over it.

So, I wonder if the shopping is about clothes at all. With most women it is for the sport of it. Buy, get a deal, take back, buy, get a deal, take back… I would rather clean a toilet or moderate ILP. Hmmmm.

They sounded uncomfortably close, didn’t they.

How many billions spent in advertizing as part and parcel of the consumer culture and still we hold the mistaken belief that everyone shops entirely of their own volition?

Wrong. We use your credit cards. :sunglasses:

Hello F(r)iends,

Men want fewer products but typically more expensive products: cars, boats, more cars, watches, more watches, motorcycles, and widescreen tv’s, 6.1 channel sound, etc. WOMEN, on the other hand, prefer relatively less expensive items but much higher quantities per item: shoes, cute cars like the mini cooper, blouses, jeans, more jeans, more shoes, more jeans, more shoes, more blouses, Pepsi, jewelry, more jewelry, “cute” things, tofu, more “cute” things, etc.

I love it when my wife shops because I know I’ll have peace for a few hours…
I’ll pay for that anyday.

This site might interest you Bess?

(I’m pissed off they got that domain name before me :imp: )

I’m squashing my temptation cos I feel an urge to get angry.
today

so I’m unhappy cos I like presents, that’s not all my relationships are about and I was joking all the same. not that any girl is adverse to gifts. I am perfectly happy, just a little stressed out, we’re women, it happens, about once a month!!! lol. and there’s that whole exams thang which is a pain up the backside, but I am happy, but I tell you something you try living with 90 17-18 your old girls in one house and very strict rules, and you try not to get pissed off from time to time… ya know?

and as for the men apprecite them thing. Yeah i like new clothes for me, I like to look good, but I’d be lying if I said that when I chose my underwear (well some of it) that I didn’t have my boyfriend in mind. and i’d be lying if I said I wasn’t fully aware of the effects different types of clothing attract.

I don’t shop to comfort myself, I shop cos it’s fun. and if the man I adore wants to take me out and spend money on me, I sure as hell ain’t gonna stop him.

yours deeply irritated
