Book Writing?
I was thinking of writing one of those books about life and why we do the things we do and I was wondering if any of these thoughts ring with anybody or if they should be written about at all.
I have a lot of weird and different ideas for explaining things that seem different from what I hear other people think or write of and I want to do someting which will help the world instead of just get me rich or occupy my time.
I realize that they may not all be right, but then again, there are many books out there (Ann Coulter!) that are pretty far from what most people would call “rightâ€, so I figure I have a chance of opening some doors somewhere in the mind.
Mostly, I just want it to have a refreshing new feel to it than all the other dime-a-dozen books have because I want people to think about things in an innovative way.
Here are a select few from my collection of 235 (and I add on to them every day)………a lot of them can be critical of society so watch out!!
THOUGHTS ON THINGS
-
Maybe people don’t like to apologize because they don’t like to think they hurt people’s feelings….maybe that’s why they get mad when being forced to apologize. When we are kids, some of us are taught to think it’s the end of the world if someone gets upset at us or if we hurt them slightly. What we do when we “overguilt†them by making them feel worse than they have to (by overexaggerating how bad the other person feels) is make them afraid to apologize because they are afraid of thinking that they could have hurt someone THAT much.
-
Isn’t loving someone only because they are “your†child kind of like saying you only love yourself? I mean, if you only love them because they are YOURS, and not love them for themselves is that really loving them for the right reasons?
-
United States is right because it is the United States?-
Since that circular philosophy has no bearing on the supposedly already existing standards of right and wrong, then anybody with that kind of theory literally has no morals, because whatever the US does, no matter how it relates to existing morals, it will be right! Also, if the people who tend to peddle these nationalist theories around really believe anything the US does is right, then why are they worried about the wrong people getting into office? It won’t be “wrong†if the United States does it.
-
The very nature of laws, being made by fellow man for fellow man to follow, cannot be infallible- there are such things as good laws as opposed to illogical, unfair, or oppressive laws, but the nature of law itself is less of a statement of “You can’t do this,†as much as it is a statement of “If you do this, we’ll do that,â€- it is technically a threat. Also, if people in general are supposed to be fallible and need laws and guidance, then how do you know the people who made the laws are trustable?
-
Why do they put gender on ID cards and the like. It’s not like identifying you with 50% of other people is going to help that much. BTW, if it is for identification, then why put M for Michael Jackson, if he doesn’t look like one?
-
You can’t get mad at a person for “hurting themselves†or making the “wrong decision†because isn’t the entity making the decision the self also? Who’s to decide which ‘self’ is valid? Also, there is no such thing as the ‘wrong’ decision- it is the person’s opinion whether or not the outcome is desirable.
-
Why would anyone be guilty because they protest- forget all those stupid adages about how he who protests is the guilty party. That literally means that you just have to take your punishment no matter what and if anyone speaks out against you accusing you of something then you are guilty. HUH?
-
It is important to give someone innocence until proven guilty- it is not to be “nice†or “right†or “fairâ€- it is just a logical principle and, in fact, is important to be observed for both the prisoner’s and the authority’s benefit! The prisoner gets a fair trial and the authorities are able to find the real perpetrators. Also torture only gets people to “admit†something just to stop the torture.
-
My, the hypocrisy of some politicians when they claim to be able to do bad things because of “human natureâ€, but then when something such as terrorism against Israel comes up, they get all compassionate and altruistic and they somehow “forget†about human nature ruling all. How come, at the beginning of the debate or conversation, they claim to support what they do (say, the Iraq War) for reasons of compassion or virtue, but then, later on, when someone questions their policies concerning the skewed nature of corporate business and how it screws poor people worldwide, they scream “Survival of the fittest!!â€
-
Why do people, especially when talking about things like the Holocaust, get more upset about the unimportant details of the events (i.e. swastika use, Nazi salutes, etc.) and therefore get more upset by a bunch of punk loving Nazi skinheads in the basement than they do about REAL POLITICAL Nazis and real neo-totalitarians? Isn’t it more respectful to the victims to make less of a chance for it to happen again by having realistic and not symbolic enemies?
-
Do I think my beliefs are right because I believe them……or is that WHY I believe them?
-
How is there any real gauge of “pain tolerance If you can tolerate it, then how can it be called pain? Huh?? It’s a philosophical concept anyway, not a medical one.
-
It is NOT childish or naïve to think that just plain refusing to show up for a war is a good idea. People assume that when people say “Don’t go to war†that they mean a certain country like the USA- when I say don’t go to war I mean the whole world. Soldiers from every country should resist- there will be no imbalance of one country having no soldiers and wars will only get less and less bloody and we will be forced to solve problems the grown up way again.
-
It is foolish to be proud of your country because you didn’t choose to be born there and because we are supposed to be more objective about morals.
-
For that matter, what does being born in a country have to do with loyalty to it? You could have been transported to a concentration camp in a foreign country and your kid who was born there forced to have citizenship there.
-
It is NOT okay for a parent to do something to a child without their consent because the freedom parents talk about does not include the freedom to take away someone else’s freedom (like circumcision or spanking). Didn’t slave owners use the same “I can do what I want with my property†excuse?
-
If we need ultra high-tech mechanisms to notice if our employees are on drugs, then what does it matter?
-
How is it saintly to suffer but sinful to hurt yourself?
-
If it really is human nature to just want to better yourself and no one else, then how come a white person would hate to have a person challenge his wealth or power or even get a few rights just because he’s black? Wouldn’t it make sense just to hate everyone else equally because it is too confusing to pay that much attention to race and sex?
-
Hitler isn’t “inhumanâ€- if millions of people were killed by bears or killer bees, then no one would be crying half as hard. The very thing that upsets us is that he was human.
-
Why do kids who drink think they are being adult….well, if drinking is for adults only then…….?
-
How is it that sometimes we teach kids to do the opposite of what they would do as adults (such as teaching them not to have sex), but other times we try to instill them with certain values before they are ready or at times when they are not necessary (such as sitting still in church- there’s plenty of time to perfect that and it’s not important to being a productive person anyway).
-
What’s worse: A Holocaust revisionist who is deeply hurt by what happened, whether or not it happened to 100 or 6 million people; or a person who fully accepts to current statistics and doesn’t feel sorry at all?
-
Why do we consider it worse to kill a police officer than an UNARMED CITIZEN?? It’s more likely that they guy who killed a cop felt threatened, so, to make a blanket statement, it should be LESS shocking!
-
How come when people join a socialist group, everybody expects them to know Karl Marx’s favorite food and birthday, but nobody questions what we know about the American system when we actually participate in it?
-
Psychologists and scientists refuse to try to fix nonscientific and personal matters that don’t pertain to genetics and chemicals or at least use some kind of formula because they subconsciously think that they shouldn’t be dogmatic by getting into supposedly opinion orientated issues.
-
If drug addicts should be punished for hurting themselves, then why aren’t anorexics put in jail?
And some extras:
*How can a kid knowingly avoid alcohol use until he’s 21 because he “knows†he may get hurt (because he doesn’t “know†how to use alcohol), but after that still be considered too young to drink? How can you be aware of your own “unawareness
*What would happen if a transvestite man got married to a transvestite woman and they both put down the opposite gender of how they were raised- would they be able to get married, but be forced to “put the right gender†correspondingly? If an official’s answer would be no, then that would prove that anti gay marriage is just to force people to identify with the “right†sex and not to make it truly heterosexual. See?
*Why aren’t minors allowed to buy certain cough medicines if they are allowed to buy vanilla (35% alcohol)? Hype trumps reason once again.
*Analyze- should a 29 year old who has been in a coma for 15 years be able to drink or vote?
I’m tired of books about people which blab on and on about genes and apes and stuff. I mean, even if that stuff were true, I still want to see if the problems are caused by society and the way we respond to it first, before writing it off as something mysterious or ingrained that we can’t change.
If you think these would make a good subject for a book (along the lines of those “why we do the things we do “booksâ€) then tell me! If not, tell me what to fix. Of course, the writing will be a little bit better, but I want to know if the subject matter is intriguing or at least different.
I wanna reach people, dammit!
