This reminded me of a story. There’s a man walking in the forest when he comes to a waterfall. There’s a scorpion in the waterfall and it’s clearly struggling to get out. The man puts his hand in to save the scorpion and the scorpion stings him. The man tries from a different angle and again the scorpion stings him. He keeps doing this, with the scorpion stinging him every time. Meanwhile, another man on the other side of the waterfall has been watching the events. He shouts to the man “Why do you bother trying to save the scorpion? It keeps stinging you! Just leave it to die”
The man responds, “It is in its nature to sting me. And it is in my nature to save it.”
I respect all life. I would only kill something in self-defence.
I mean, I really can’t stand bees, yet I respect their right to live. I would hope that if insects were as intelligent as us they would have the same respect.
I like your little story, but I do need to watch my knee-jerk bite here. My friends are getting on my case.
Hi Angel,
I can’t kill to just kill either, and (I said it before) this is a bigger issue - this willy-nilly-killy thing. I always go back to Planet of the Apes. God, I used to love that movie. You just may come back as someone’s joy-ridin’ roadkill next time.
Outside:
Ants–leave alone
Bees–leave alone
Spiders–blow on/poke
Ladybugs–flick
Potatobugs–flick
Grasshoppers–try to catch and put in a bottle (it’s pretty hard, but it’s really fun)
Inside:
Ants–DEATH!
Bees–let outside
Spiders–catch, scare sister/mother, put outside
Ladybugs–let outside
Potatobugs–let outside
Grasshoppers–call my dog over and watch him try to eat them
i always save the spiders in my athroom, they are so cute…and they watch me
but yeah, i only kill bugs that will harm me when they are inside the house, or if they hurt me while they ar on me outside. i love bees, i like to look at them and pet their fuzzy butts. however, im not allergic to their sting, so im not afraid of them…dont flick ladybugs though, they are so cute and red, and they eat the orphids that damage our pretty flowers.
oh, and spiders eat flies and other pesky insects…plus its bad to kill one in my culture…
how do i know? i had one crawling on my face once and i was really out of it and i didn’t know it was there and so i was walking around for like ten minutes trying to figure out who had peanut butter.
