Every time you open a paper (or more likely the MSN home page) you read about another “scandalous” celebrity fuck vid that just turned up. It’s gotten to the point that I seriously wonder whether anyone fucks without a camcorder on anymore.
What has changed? Has the ubiquity of the 'net created an environment where mores and social strictures have changed? Are people less inhibited or concerned about who watches them copulate? Has the mainstreaming of porn created a sense in people that it’s perfectly normal to keep a camera nearby during the act (as well as switch position 15 times as you hump)? Or is the simple fact that the technology itself is so cheap as to be within the reach of every Western teenager responsible for the plethora of DIY porn?
The obvious answer is full-body condoms. There are a couple of drawbacks, breathing being one of them, and no one knows who is doing who, which makes the videos a little obscure, but it rids one of the tape ripping problem…
I really don’t know what the cause of taping might be. It isn’t just celeb sex, but gangs are filming their violence, all sorts of crap.
The internet was inevitable as a social-psychological phenomenon. This is because knowledge must steadily increase to infuse meaning for new generations. Once the bulk of the soil gets tilled, it can only continue to be tilled on a more quantitative, shallow basis.
So instead of new cultural, political, scientific, or literary phenomena, we have the new exciting frontier of my cock and your ass thrust into unassuming faces around the world.
Pop Culture always catered to the lowest common denominator, only problem is you used to be able to avoid it if you so choosed, now with mass media the small high fecundity memes are everywhere, and everyone thinks the world is going to hell… well it might be… but if it is, it was going that way anyway. The recent media explosion just makes it easier to see.
For as long as celebrity relationships last, you sort of need to use a camcorder to record moments like that. They rarely seem to happen twice.
On a more serious note, the media attracts extraverted people. Those who are high on the Extraversion scale of the “Big 5” tend to show off and crave attention, especially on a sexual level. With all of the sexual attention celebrities receive without them, it’s no wonder why sex tapes are extraordinary devices at giving attention both to the stars and the distributors.
Interestingly enough, highly extraverted people also have difficulty being intimate with others. I’ve never seen any celebrity sex videos, but I’d be interested in how uncomfortable they get whenever they look into the other person’s eyes. Perhaps their acting experence helps them overcome that.
