If Zizek is ever captured, which is more of a when than a if… he is like Steve Irwin playing with dangerous animals… do NATO countries have to go fetch him? Are we expected to?
On the one hand, Zizek should be able to handle himself. He is a Yugoslavian Army veteran, and plays Call of Duty religiously. Clearly, he can get out if a dark damp basement in Angola with his arms handcuffed to a iron sewer pipe, and bring the pain down on his captors, liberate the country, and turn everyone into Marxist Atheists single handedly.
But let’s say they broke his trigger finger accidenly, and his finger swolled up, and didn’t feel like struggling with the handcuffs cause it hurt a lot. Is there a expectation now that Delta Force is going to do a aerial night raid on a compound to liberate him, because he is nearly a NATO citizen? Will we have to once Slovenia gets full membership?
If they demand ransom money, is it morally wrong to reply back, low balling how much he is worth to us (hard to say how much he actually is worth to us in the first place). I can chuck in a $25 Subway gift card. It would be $50, but felt ripped off when I read his Farce book, so it’s just going to be $25 so I feel I’ve been reimbursed, but not uncaring to his plight. My neighbors can auction off some old chairs, might bring in $30 maybe… so that’s $55 of value from here. In the 4th or 5th I think it is, he cracks on lacan for being a charlatan, then he cracks on judith butler and the deconstructionist crew. Next he talks about how he should have been elected president as he is clearly smarter than his opponents. Hilarious, all of it. But what makes this guy such a character is that speech impediment he has and his contagious hyperactivity.
