Effort and Results

Say someone has two choices of behavior. The first makes it look like someone made an effort, but has a very low chance of success. The other has a moderate chance of success, but doesn’t look like someone made an effort if it doesn’t succeed.

Which choice is someone obligated to make when someone has a responsibility to uphold and has to choose how to uphold it?

If you define your responsibility as to those who would benefit from the success, then you would pick the second option, unless you want to make the tired old argument that you need to look good to continue your ‘service’. If you believe you have financial responsibilities, such as to a family, and you’re being paid for your efforts or for your success then also, the second. But, if you’re being paid for the perception of effort, then most likely the first option.

Personally, I don’t perceive myself as having very many responsibilities nor does anyone else perceive me to. My efforts are mostly directed to a form of success (which I won’t get into here) with little chance at recognition for my efforts.
