Egg vs. Chicken - which is first?

One of the most philosophic questions, sorry if repeating the topic, I couldn’t find it with the search button.

Anyway, what do you thing is first? The chicken or the egg? How can we have chicken, if it doesn’t appear from egg? But then where is the egg from- they are not produced in the markets
Waiting for your discussion.

You cant have a chicken without and egg.

You cant have a chicken without it coming from an egg.

The way i see it, the first egg to hatch from what we consider and call a chicken was the first chicken…otherwise it was just another bird, with another name or characteristics…what came first was the identity of chicken.

Saying this i must sort of point out that by my reasoning the bird that came before the chicken didnt exist until it confromed to what we consider the form and identity of a chicken.

I have dug myself into a hole. Goodbye.

enlighten, my theory is in the same direction. I think that egg is first, because it could be result from 2 other animals, who make new kind of organism. When this creature starts making creatures from the same type, it lays eggs. That’s how egg is ‘invented’. Later chicken came, too.

Yeah, i think our ideas point in the same direction, let me expand a litle on my views and we can perhaps get further

if the chicken had any other charactarsics that didnt belong to it, it would not be a chicken.

It lays egg. It Pecks in that funny way, dont fly too well, the males look a certain way, they have a certain DNA structure.

Take any of these charactaritics away and u dont really have a chicken anymore. So could i could elaborate and say that the universal charactaristcs of a chicken are what make it a chicken. In this case I cant really see what came first, i guess the first chicken that evolved is what came first. (???)

A Chicken and an Egg are lying in bed. The Egg is laid back, smoking a cigarette and looking contented. The Chicken is looking awkward and embarassed, slightly miffed. The Egg turns to the chicken and says
“Well I suppose that answers that question then”

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Isn’t it the ‘Idea’ chicken came before both the chicken and the egg…?

The chicken and the egg arrived at the same time. It wasn’t a chicken until it could produce chicken eggs…

I’d be more interested in which came first, bacon or pigs?

JT

You’re an evil, evil man…

My eight year old cousin solved this one:

“The chicken came first. Because if the egg came first, then who would sit on the egg?” Where the chicken came from is still man’s greatest mystery.

What about another animal? Imagine relationship between another 2 animals, one of them is laying and egg and the result is… a chicken  Chicken could be mixture between two different animals and the hybrid could be chicken. What about that?

i think the lizard was first, the fish before that.

Hmmm…if considering the “chicken” and the “egg” as objective entities while disregarding the human subjective universal concept of these terms, these things/objects/beings we happen to call “chicken” and “egg” probably existed before we named them.

Then again, what we call a chicken is a domesticated bird, which means that we created the chicken we know today through selective breeding and/or genetic modification. The original ancestor of the domestic chicken is the Red Junglefowl, which exists in the wild. However, this is not a question of “which came first, the Red Junglefowl or the Red Junglefowl’s egg?”, it is about what we know as a “chicken”.

In this respect, the “egg” would have come first…since man had a concept of “egg” before he had a concept of the domestic “chicken”.

Hi Shy,

OK, man had a concept of egg, before the concept of chicken. That is true. But the question implies a chicken and chicken egg relationship. It was clever of you to try to skirt the issue, but no cupie doll.

So, just for Tab, did the concept of canadian bacon come before or after the concept of pigs?

JT

Good point. If you follow the theory of evolution, then there would had to have been a first “chicken”…which would have started out as an egg.

And how was the first chicken ‘invented’, by mammal?

Somebody, anybody - WILL SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME A SAUSAGE !!!

Hello JT!

The concept of a pig came about first. “Canadian Bacon” isn’t even as old a concept as “bacon”…and I believe the term was first coined by an American.

It’s just back bacon…I have no idea why it is called “Canadian”.

It would have been the first chicken offspring of non-chicken parents.

That’s what I’m pleading for. So finally hope that you’ll conclude, too, that egg is first.
