ego's have run amuck

And how might you suggest he make use of Capitols? They’re certainly nothing to do with sentences.

An interesting quote. I think the problem here, as in almost any discussion forum, is that people attck the person instead of the person’s view. Often if someone disagrees with a post, they’ll declare the poster to be stupid, or some othe insult.

It’s very hard not to do, of course. Sometimes people state their opinions as fact, or in a way that makes them seem less knowledgable than others. It can try one’s patience, and in a heated debate exasperation can lead to name-calling.

There’s also the view held my many that people who spend a long time at universities think themselves to be more superior than they really are. I have seen some evidence to support this. However after 2 or 3 years of work they’re entitled to a bit of pride, and probably DO know more than some of us. Also, I’ve only heard this opinion from people who haven’t done degrees or other such courses, so it is biased.

And some people are fucking stupid! Every now and then, some retard posts something about how we all don’t really exist…we only know what we perceive, blah blah blah. When you don’t have any good ideas, why not question our verbal and mathematical axioms? It will certainly stagnate any real arguement into a silly debate of semantics.
At some point, axioms and assumptions always have to be questioned…but sometimes these posters are barely qualified to write a BS essay for Freshman english, let alone rethink the principles of geometry or the limitations of language.

It’s like asking, “what’s 2 + 2?” and someone answering “you know…numbers don’t really exist” followed by a bubbling sound and a thick haze of marijuana smoke. Such opinions are usually worthy of very public scorn.

why should that wich we are allowed to discuss be limited by that wich you think you are equipped to follow ? and why oh why should fundamental inquiries forever be damned because all the bongers you know tend to indulge in [low quality] fundamental inquiries ?

I’m new also, Yet So far I’ve found most people in these forums to be civil, exluding a few, but you just can’t take that personally, all in all I think the majority of people here are seriously interested in sharing knowledge, concepts, insights, and so on.

thats why you make your own thread for “reality isnt even real man” or “why do you even believe god exists you pawn”

it happens way the hell too often in topics too specific to withstand the force. so newbies, just watch it, youll notice how annoying it is eventually.

Ah, you’ve hit it! Both the Internet’s greatest strength and highest calling, and its greatest weakness and most abject sewage-smeared flaw. The advantage is that anyone can share his ideas with the entire world… and the disadvantage is that anyone can share his ideas with the entire world. There is no “spam filter” for this - judgment is required.

That said, a board with the word “philosophy” in the title is going to be a purer source of intelligent thought than your average net hangout (cue elitist masturbatory fellatious group-congratulation here), but any open board also has its detractors.

Oh, hell. I’ll take it anyway.

With all due respect to those who have the knowledge for more complicated debates, this is the kind of thing that can lead people into philosophy. I definately don’t think I’m very capable of “rethinking the principles of geometry or the limitations of language”, because I don’t know enough to come to a conclusion.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with considering the unanswerable questions. Declaring to the world that no one exists may not be a wise move, but being aware of the fact that people might not exist seems healthy. I guess you just need a little patience for people who want to consider these things but aren’t up to university level philosophy.

i think his exasperation comes moreover from the fact that some terms can be and all too often are, grossly abused.

to say we dont really exists its rather nonsensical, what does “really” mean ? what does exist mean ? its a brute force approach to philosophy, much like calling females “honey” is a brute force approach to seduction.
