It’s the latest addition to my regular website. Basically, I’m trying to come up with a “directory” of all the links to decent philosophical materials out on the web. You may notice I even took some of the links from the “Philosophical Texts Archive” thread in the ILP philosophy board (I hope no one gets mad at me for that).
With any luck, I could have a decent sized directory in a couple of months. Feel free to PM me with any links you think should be added.
Don’t take this the wrong way, compadre, but why did you do this? There are a thousand such lists already in existence, and none are particularly comprehensive. To make a full list would take about 10 years, by which time a load more stuff would have been added…
Nonetheless I’ll offer you a list of the online resources that I’ve tended to use
Yeah, I know there are tons of lists already out there, but I a lot of them are hard to get to (at least for me). Besides, my forum-section of my website does not get much traffic, so I thought I’d expand the purpose and functionality of my website.
Looks like a good site. Maybe you could try specialising in a particular niche subject, so your directory is not just all philosophy, which would be really hard to do, but specific to one particular type of philosophy, and then you could make your site the best directory for that niche. Kind of like utilitarian.net has done with modern utilitarian philosophy.
Thanks for the suggestion Obw. It is much appreciated. Perhaps I will tailor my directory to a specific niche in philosophy — such as all Greek Philosopher, or all Modern Philosophy.
Remember what happened to the ‘portals’ – trying to be everything to everyone? The web needs masters-of-trades, not jack-of-all-trades. There are too many of these already.
Of couse, as you master one area, you could then begin to work on another and use subdomains to hold all the specialist sites together under one main domain (ephilosopher.info) eg:
ooooooh, another excellent suggestion. I love the idea of subdomains, but to be honest with you, I’m having a hard time setting them up. I’m confident that I have the ability to set them up, It’s just that I do not know how to do it.
This is something I will work on over the next few weeks.
