Can we have an essay contest? We could choose a topic and all submit entries with some sort of communal judging system.

Any interest?

Any potential topic ideas?

I think that it would be a pretty good idea.

I think as far as the topic is concerned, maybe everyone could sign up for the Essay contest before-hand, and then everyone gets to pick a topic. What I can do is put all of the names and all of the topics in two separate hats and draw one for one so it will be random.

If a person happens to land on their own topic, I’ll leave that topic out and put the name back in the hat and draw a new name.

I think that’s a worthy idea, however differing topics might cause some to have interest in one and less interest in another. I propose that we include your topic swap idea, but that we also choose a common theme under each topic should be related.

for instance we could make the theme “moral dilemmas”. (just an example)

Do you think that would be better than an open topic contest?

I think that would be better. “Moral dilemnas,” would actually be a great one because it gives everyone some breathing room with relation to choosing a specific topic.

I’m liking moral dilemmas and theories of knowledge. Count me in as a maybe.

Excellent, we’ve got interest from multiple corners, 5 so far… I’m thinking perhaps we each choose our top 3 categories once we have a couple more people…

Input anyone? opinions or reservations?

I’m thinking we can have a month to write the essays, followed by a period of communal and or tribunal review…

This thread hasn’t been running very long, and i’m sure more people would be interested in the idea, so while we wait a day or two for other people to enter initially, shall we number some potential categories?

we can also discuss the rules further if anyone has any experience with this sort of thing.

I suggest starting a thread in Mundane Babble, where this will get more views. I don’t look at this section too much - maybe everyone else looks all the time. I dunno. Maybe just a post with a link to this thread. We could make it sticky for a while, I suppose.

Alrighty then, i suppose i have left this thread idle long enough, and now that the suspense is just right, it’s time to open a main thread in mundane babel to begin the voting process.

I’m still looking for input on the topic system and how exactly that will work.

O.K everyone, i created another thread in mundane babble in which we shall have a public vote:

Remember you can submit a category, and we are still open to suggestions to how this will all go down.

PM’s will be sent out within a day or two to everyone who expressed interest, and I’m going to collect votes from a few of my friends today as well.
