Euro 2008

Yas!!!

After much despair and mopping around when the football season finished, Euro 2008 has arrived to light up my life!

I’m slowly getting over the heartache I suffered when Italy beat us (Scotland) meaning we wouldn’t qualify, and I’m now looking forward to seeing some of the best players in the world strut their stuff. Ronaldo, Fabergas, Klose, Pirlo, and more. I’m actually shaking with excitement!!!

So, I’ve got a tenner on each way for the Czech’s to win at odds of 20-1, and £4 on Miroslav Klose for top goalscorer at 10-1. Also a wee cheeky £2 on each way for Henrik Larsson to finish as top goalscorer at odds of 50-1. Potential winnings of £165. 'Mon the Czech’s!

My head however tells me Italy will win. They ooze class, and are almost impossible to score against. But then again so do France, Spain, Holland and Portugal. And as Greece showed in 2004 you can’t write off the outsiders, meaning this is really anyone’s tournament. (Hence the £10 on Czech Republic!)

Anyone else excited about tonight’s big kick off?

that could make for a messy field…

Possibly why they win so much?

that or free kicks…

Or dodgy refereeing decisions… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_Mejuto_González

Bitter? Moi?

Yahoo! I want a Portugal v Spain Final

Fernando Torres to lead the scoring, with Klose not far behind at all, as long as Torres does not get subbed often due to a niggling injury.

For anyone in USA that wants to get into these games, its like the world cup, but for Europe only.

The games are on Espn, Espn2, Espn Classic today. And Abc Final. The games are usually played at 1130 am and 2 pm here. Everyday from June 7th- June 29th.

Here are some links.

If you dont like soccer/european football, go watch the boston celtics buy themselves a championship.

Anyway, I hope you give it chance if you have the days off from other activities like work. But if you cant see these games, me and Humegoitright will more than enjoy them for you.

Did I say, YAHOO!

Winners: Spain( they’ll finally do it)

I placed 4 coupons, Winners: Spain, Top Scorer: Podolski, Today I won my 2-0 prediction Portugal-Turkey and so far i’v predicted win for Czech Republic and Portugal, now I need Croatia and Germany to win

i’m for turkey and Russia, but they have little chances

Turkey gave a good showing off themselves last night. Are you a Turk stoned_kazak? I seem to remember you saying you were from Cyprus? Maybe the Turkish half? I’m sorry I’m useless with remember stuff like that!

I was impressed with Kazim-Richards, he played well, very creative.

But I do agree with you, Turkey now have an uphill struggle to qualify. It’ll come down to the Czech-Turkey game, and I think the Czech’s will edge that one.

Do you think Russia will come through the groups? I think they have a strong squad, but I think the Swedes are being written off very easily by a lot of pundits and fans.

Germany - Poland, Austria - Croatia today. I predict Germany and Croatia. I really hope Germany put 4 or 5 by Boruc, I hate the man with such a passion!!!

yea my dad is turkish cypriot(so is colin kazim, half as well). im not from the turkish half :stuck_out_tongue: anw

Turkey played abysmal. I was expecting a shit game from a squad with no proper centre forward but not this bad, even against a superior team like Portugal. Maybe if Portugal beats the Czechs(to guarantee the 2nd round by the second game) and the Turks beat the Swiss(which isn’t unlikely) then the second will be decided between Czech Republic and Turkey.

Russia have a good squad, but Pogrebnyak got injured and will miss the finals, and the best player Arshavin will only play in game 3. Still I think they’ll qualify because they have a strong defence and a skillful midfield, and are exactly the type of team to beat Greece( who play anti-football). Sweden are a “brand” but I don’t see them beating Russia, Spain or Greece. Maybe if they were in Group A or B they could scrape 2nd place but not in their group

Ah cool!

I thought Turkey looked good for a point at times, but I suppose you’ll probably be a better judge of how well they played in respect to their abilities!

They thing Russia have on their side is that no one expects much, they certainly didn’t in qualifying. I think within a decade Russia football, both league and international will be a major force. The money is there, the quality is there, it’s just a matter of time.

However, time will tell!

Really interested today to see who partners with Klose. Will it be Podolski? Gomez? I really want to see all three playing together. Just want to see alot of goals.

However teams I dont want to see in the finals, Germany, Italy, France.

Teams I wouldn’t mind in the Final, Portugal, Spain, Holland, Czech Rep, Croatia, in that order.

Sorry Humegotitright, but do you think Sweeden will score against greece with their banged up strkers? Ibrahimavic is not as healthy at this moment and Larrson is old. Greece plays the kind of football i played in highschool. 1-0 victorys and a few great upsets. Grinding it out. Of course I was the hard man in the middle.

You two guys doing fantasy football picks and players? I’m in three different competitions.

i don’t do well in fantasy football, better in predictors

I think it’ll be Podolski, he has competition experienceI(to partner with Klose)

Another team that seems to be good is Croatia. I’m wondering how Kalinic and Rakitic will perform in a senior tournament, and if Modric lives up to his recent hype. Hope to see alot of goals today in the first game of group B and that probably will be the case

Podolski and Klose up front. Podolski refrained from celebrating when he scored as he was born in Poland.

Poland - Germany, now there’s a clash filled with political history!

I know what you’re saying about Sweden, and you’re right, Ibrahmovic is playing badly and Larsson is old. But both are world class strikers and anything could happen. One thing I’ve learnt as a Rangers fan, is never write off Henrik Larsson!

I’ve got a team on with the bookies. Can’t remember exactly who’s in it, but I know I don’t have anyone who’s scored yet! I’ll look it out for you. What’s your team?

Croatia rode out a storm today. For the last 30 mins it was all Austria! Good result for them though.

i won my second coupon, as croatia and germany won, although i thought croatia would destroy austria, and it turned out to be opposite(unfair that austria didnt get at least a point)

tomorrow im placing:

Romania-France 0-1
Netherlands-Italy 0-0

hehe rangers, like em too coz of tugay, isa bagci and giorgos efrem. you must’ve been praying that boruc slips up today

Aahhh Tugay… What a player, very sad when he left.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s ‘Group of Death’ games!

I don’t think I’ll actually be contributing anything worthwhile to the forum while Euro 2008 is on.

(but then what’s new!)

YOU ES AY, YOU ES AY!

I don’t actually follow any sports…

I admire you for doing that, if you never distracted yourself with anything at all. No entertainment.

Ooooooooooofty!

Spain humped Russia 4-1, David Villa with the hatrick.

Also Holland 3 - Italy 0! Turn up for the books!

Seeing some great games so far! Long may it continue!!
