Different people, same two philosophies, highbrow asceticism versus lowbrow hedonism, or, people are ascetics in the day and hedonists at night?
Oh, I think I got it now, in times of crisis, people turn to escapism, whether that escapism be comforting fairly tales or liquor, it doesn’t really matter.
