Farewell, Mr. Hoffman.

And so passes one of the greatest actors of our time; second page news to the Super Bowl. Synecdoche, New York presents a haunting eulogy.

The scene that keeps playing over and over again in my head now is the one from Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. You know the one.

I keep picturing him in Boogie Nights trying to make out with Mark Whalberg.

He may have been a decent actor but, he was a bigger idiot.

He was a great actor. And yes, I am pissed off at him for being an addict.
I don’t think people take seriously how hard it is to be seen by so many people, and in his case seen showing some very raw sides of his personality through characters on screen. Of course, once they find they need drugs, they should back off, be less famous, earn less money. But this should not be seen as a weird option because everyone thinks they want to be famous.
There are not that many famous people whose deaths would have bothered me as much or more that his. Less than 20 actors. Around the same number of musicians, etc.
The local library put up a display of his films to rent. All very, very high quality films. He was part of making quality in our culture. CAlled on by other people with a lot of talent. They wanted him in their projects. They wanted to work with him.
There is a hole now where he was.
And that is sad and pisses me off.

I have listened to the reports. A needle left in his arm and 70 bags of heroin. 70 bags???
That sounds abnormal as does leaving the needle in. Am I wrong? It just sounds fishy. I am far from an expert on this but, having known folks wealthy and poor with such addictions, it feels like its not right.

What a waste. Hoffman really had Capote down pat.

tragic

Needle in the arm is not strange. They take too much heroin or it is a very strong batch. It is going directly into the blood and hits the brain fast. Suddenly nothing matters and you are limp, if not unconscious. If he was putting it in slow, even more likely. He just loses all Active ability mid injection. Addicts are found this way dead and a live fairly often.

Hmm, well I can only think of one word,… Eeeeew.

He probably went to buy it, and the kid had it all bagged in 20’s for the local crackheads, and the rich guy just showed up and bought it all so he ended up w/ 70 tiny bags. Just like when you buy weed in the hood. You tell em 100 bucks worth and they give you 10 dime bags.

Jesus died for nothing I suppose.”–John Prine
Did H. die from personal demons or from success?

ier—what would jesus say…

I can’t presume to know.

please give it a try

I can’t putwords in Jesus" mouth. I would suspect that Hoffman was reclaimed in the spirit world since Jesus doesn’t lose. Prine was just wondering. Jesus does not always save us from ourselves, not in this world.

Maybe nothing. Too late to say anything. Perhaps Jesus’ response would simply be with silent tears.

Hoffman now has the answers. We are left with the questions.

duplicate post

what is this spirit world you mention…you can put words in the jesus mouth…several guys have already done that in the bible…
