Father and Son

Son,

Today you make a decision.

Today you become a man.

Today you look inside yourself.

Today you make a stand.

Today you choose a path.

Today you determine your fate.

Today you become a good man.

Today you become a man of hate.

Father,

Why must I choose today?

Why must my soul hinge on only one choice?

Why must my life be lived now?

Why must I lose my future voice?

Why must I only be one type of man?

Why must life be black or white?

Why must I stand for the invisible?

Why must I foretell wrong and right?

Son,

You have to know who you are.

You have to see living is tough.

You have to search for a path among thorns.

You have a duty where guessing isn’t enough.

You have a responsibility to yourself.

You have to live your life by choice.

You have to realize in choice you are alone.

You have to speak in one bold voice.

Father,

How will I know what to do?

How will I know what to say?

How will I know when my time comes?

How will I get through the day?

How will I know the decision I made is right?

How will I be able to see?

How will I face those who I have done wrong?

How will I live with their judgment of me?

Son,

It is your life to live and no one else’s.

It is your choice to make and yours alone.

It is your own life which you will cheer.

It is your own life which you will bemoan.

It is time for you to look inside.

It is time for you to see who you will be.

It is something no one can take away from you.

It is something that fearless you will see.

Father,

I want to do right.

I want to live by the law.

I want people to see me as righteous.

I want people to crave what they saw.

I want them to want to be me.

I want them to fear my flaming sword.

I want to live forever in bliss.

I want to be perfect in the eyes of the Lord.

Son,

What if I tell you that you are the judge?

What if I tell you God is dead?

What if no one watches you when you are alone?

What if light on your dirty deeds is never shed?

What if you can get away with it all?

What if no one will know but you?

What if you lived forever judgment free?

What if none of what I say is true?

Father,

I would live for only myself.

I would take all that I wanted.

I would live without the confinements of sin.

I would exist totally undaunted.

I would be my own man.

I would seek only pleasure.

I would live one life on this earth.

I would know the afterlife holds no treasure.

Son,

There is only one who can decide right or wrong.

There is only one who you must answer to.

There is a large truth you can find.

There is today a revelation of truth inside you.

There is a decision which has been made.

There is a life which has been set.

There is a son which takes his first steps.

There is a weeping side that lost a bet.

Father,

I gave you only one answer.

I gave you a truth set on a pin.

I gave it to you based on world which does not exist.

I gave it to you from a world without sin.

I gave you a choice I would not choose.

I gave you the voice of a man that isn’t your son.

I gave you an image opposite that of which I am.

I gave you nothing and now it is done.

Son,

Now you have taken your first step.

Now you have found your path.

Now you have revealed yourself to me.

Now you begin to live in the aftermath.

Now you find out there is a God.

Now you realize choice comes from the soul.

Now you must know I will always love you.

Now you begin to pay the toll.

Father,

I am a man who lives for himself.

I am a man who others would call evil.

I am living inside fences others have built.

I am here so call me what you will.

I am no longer confused.

I am a man who sees himself as true.

I am going to see things not as black and white but grey.

I am leaving you.

Son,

Tomorrow you will see the consequences of your choice.

Tomorrow you will experience great joy.

Tomorrow you will fear the stabbing knife of tragedy.

Tomorrow you might become the father of a little girl or boy.

Tomorrow you become the teacher.

Tomorrow you will present them with a choice.

Tomorrow you must do the right thing and let them choose.

Tomorrow you help them find their voice.
