Pretty clear from the title, list your favorite band (in bold), and why you love them (not in bold).
Tool,
The most meaningful and deep lyrics, amazing musical style, and I agree with their opinions on life. Simple really. I recommend anyone who hasn’t already, listen to them. They’re the reason I’m into Philosophy in the first place (my jump start).
Three words, “The Almight Cello” I love the cello. I just love everything about the band. The lead vocalist, Melora Creager has such a beautiful voice and I love the sound of the cello. I never thought of playing anything besides classical with a cello until I heard this band.
If you haven’t heard of Rasputina before, check this out…
The lead singer/(I believe)lyricist is a poet at heart. He only turned to music when he realized he probably couldn’t make a living selling his poetry.
Personally, I’ve got to say that my favourite artist right now is Scott Brown. Perhaps DJ Bluecore. Not quite sure which I like better.
I like the whole 160BPM minimum speed limit.
Scott Brown has a richer, longer history. He’s definately got that going for him. And Elysium is one of the richest songs I’ve ever heard. So many wonderful layers, so textural.
But, if for no other reason, what DJ Bluecore does to Vitamin B’s Adagio . . . that is freakin’ genius. I’m normally somewhat lukewarm towards sampling, but that was so well done.
‘…I’ve got to ride, Ride like the wind, to be free again.’
Great song, its too bad I’ve never actually heard any of their other work though. Might have to look into that.
Sonata Arctica is my favorite band at present; a power-metal band from Finland. It’s like I’m on a drug when listening to them, I just can’t stop. Great stuff.
My “favorite band” is a constantly changing list of 50 or so musicians. It is impossible to pick a favorite at this point in my life. I will speak of one hough
Nick Drake : Excellent poet, incredible songwriter, excellent guitarist, beautiful voice, and of the three albums he released, there wasn’t a single thing missing from any of them, they are perfect in every respect.
There is also a band called “Tripping Daisies”. They had this one hit a while ago…
“I got a girl, she wears suede shoes
I got a girl, she wears them in the nude!”
My faves would be:
Instrumentally: Dream Theatre, Tool, Dave Matthews (in spurts), The Mars Volta, The Roots, Smashing Pumpkins
Lyrically: The roots, eminem, tool, I mother earth, Buck 65, Modest Mouse, Radiohead, Pumpkins, Blackalicious, Tribe Called Quest, Pearl Jam
Catchiness/coolness (not already mentioned): Stone Temple Pilots, Audioslave, Rage (ATM), Soundgarden, The Offspring (old), Queens of the Stoneage, Tears for Fears.
