Who was your favorite ninja turtle as a kid, or when it first came out?
( april, shredder, be-pop etc are also included)
Is that ninja turtle still your favorite one today, or has it changed?
Michaelangelo was my favorite as a 10 year old for 3 reasons: he was a party dude, I thought parties were cool. He ate pizza, I thought pizza kicked ass. He skateboarded the most, or so I thought anyway, I was never really sure, maybe I immagined it. But I thought that was cool too.
now, my favorite is splinter. He was all like shadowy and chill.
PS. What religion would you think splinter was anyway. Like if you were to listen to his advice he gave to the turtles, would you say he was, “buddhist, shinto, daoist” or what?
These are all very serious questions. I think maybe this post should be moved to the philosophy section or something.
My favorite as a kid was Michaelangelo, but he was just barely ahead of Leonardo. I liked Michaelangelo because I wanted to be funny like him (I later realized he isn’t really that funny when you’re older than 6.) Then Leonardo because he totally had the best weapons of everybody. Michaelangelo was the sole reason I picked up the nunchucks though, and I still play with them today.
Today, it’s probably gotta be either Splinter or Leonardo. I wish I had some leadership qualities. That seems to be my main criteria for who’s my favorite: What they can do that I wish I could do. Plus Leonardo still has the best weapon, I just wish they were straight because ninja swords (shinobigatana) are NOT curved, and they’re supposed to be NINJA turtles. But katanas are still super sweet. Splinter is probably a close second to Leonardo these days because he’s like Yoda; he’s wise, calm, and not human, but he totally knows what he’s talking about and he can fight like a madman when he wants to. He just… doesn’t want to.
Michaelangelo when i was a kid, and Michaelangelo now. he is relaxed about life, he has fun, and is a happy guy. he makes the bad jokes for him self, for his own entertainment, just cuz no one else gets them isn’t his fault. i love that despite not having the focus that leo does, or the anger that raph does or even the intelligence that don does; he is still the best fighter (he is very much so, in the comics). i injoy people, or in this case turtles, that don’t take all that life, crap too serial.
Donatello, and I believe it was actually a strong influence. I was actually considering starting a thread “philosophy of the ninja turtles.”
Donatello seemed to me the most rational choice. He shared the ninja abilities, which grants him whatever mystical power “ninja” might have had outside the known laws. He was morally secure because he’s “a good guy.” And unlike the others he excelled in science. Why have Michaelangelo’s excitement in trivial things. Why have Leonardo’s leadership? Why have Raphael’s maladjusment? The sequels lost something that the first movie was very meaningful about somehow.
I also became fascinated by the Bo, to the point that I’m seriously considering some work in firespinning.
