Former ILP users you wish would come back

I have not been to this place long enough to say that I miss some user, but the above thought seems to fall into the sad-but-true category in an almost poignant manner.

Let’s hope it doesn’t turn to literal reality.

Interesting and useful feedback. Strange, because activity is up over the past couple years:

Defined as users either posting or reacting, so a bit skewed because reaction functions were expanded at some point in there.

Weekly post totals seem flat or slightly up:

I think that drop at the end is because weeks are defined Monday-to-Sunday, the last week is only half the days of the rest.

Not the whole story, of course; some food isn’t filling. Warrants more investigation, but I thought the contrast was interesting.

Cool stats. Looks like it’s still not time to draw the curtains, huh?

Also, comparing to other communities I know (for instance, there’s one which has a total of 10 new posts, posts not topics, per week) ILP is not doing that bad.

Helps that there are a few users who are much more active than others.

I have no social life beyond my family, wife, work, and video games, doing my part.

At least on this nobody can disagree with you.

Has Satyr been banned again?

Or is his absence due to the banality of late in topics?

.
The boards can fall silent for months at a time, so.. factual.

Same.

The Satyr account is banned, but his sockpuppet account Silenus is not.

I guess he just got tired of being wrong.

Mmmmm… wrong about what?

Rather than aiming for a singular “right” answer, philosophical inquiry often prioritizes providing better comprehension of complex questions and different viewpoints, does it not?

and that is a valid reason to be banned. LOL

Yeah, this is a good summary of what Satyr gets wrong. Probably why he left.

I sense mutual ribbing.

The ghost of Biggy just hearted my reply. What’s next? An actual response in words?

Is he banned indefinitely? Too bad, I liked some of his posts and enjoyed conversing with or debating him. Debate is the only way you win the hearts and minds of people through public discourse.

The Satyr account is not indefinitely banned, but it was arbitrarily long; I think it expires in December. But the human being behind the banned account created a sockpuppet, Silenus, shortly after the Satyr account was banned. That account is not banned.

As much as I disagree with most of what he argues for, when he’s at his best – making arguments, actually engaging in a vaguely philosophical way – I agree he can be fun to debate. But the value of his actual engagement is balanced against his much more common winemom posting and being a corrosive asshole. On net he probably inhibits discussion more than he contributes.

Still, he’s got an account he could post under if he wanted to, he’s not here by his own choice.

He is also absent on Know Thyself Forum.

¿Transformation?

Or dead.

Or never just one guy.

From what I’ve read from him here, he’s an extremely witty guy.

But the problem with him is that he has an ego the size of a country and also he’s too much fond of name calling and diminishing others’ views. His bad temper gets the best of him.

It’s a pity because except for that and some harsh opinions of his I could never subscribe to, he’s surely one of the cleverest persons I have met online so far.

He’s said he’s been on Internet forums like this since the early 2000s.

Probably just taking a vacation.

You haven’t heard the last of him, you witless female!!

Just for the record:

“I don’t have to be sent to hell, I am in hell.
Surrounded by imbeciles and psychotics… in a world that is slowly going mad.
Two-thousand years+ of Abrahamic metaphysics is culminating in this American asylum of desperate degenerates.

Nothing to do but sit silently and watch it all implode.”

Satyr on July 15th in, of all places, the dungeon!

I’d like to believe it was something that I said.

So, it’s confirmed that he needed some vacation.

[You’d probably add: some meds too.]
