For those few of you who might also frequent madphilosophers:
The site got hacked and I (global moderator) got ip-banned by the hacker. The hacker is now posing as me asking people to donate to mpg so they can move to another server because of the problems after getting hacked.
This is a scam. The current ‘willem’ on the madphilosophers forum is not me. It’s a hacker. I can’t even access the forum.
The problem here is that our administrator, pam, is absent and unreachable since some time. There is no way to recover madphilosophers that I know of.
If you need to access the site, use a proxy to get round the IP ban and start a new account. This will enable you to get in touch with the other site admins.
If you only have one, and she’s absent, then you’re fucked.
The only other possibility is hacking into the admin panel and creating a new admin to take back the board. But obviously I wouldn’t be able to tell you how to do that.
I have no doubt that I still wouldn’t be able to do something. I’ve never been able to figure out how to use proxies anyway.
Wonderer: could you perhaps post on mpg to warn people?
The only one who can really do something is the admin of madphilosophers, and she hasn’t been around for ages. I was foolish enough to mention this on a support forum. In hindsight, I must have offered our forum to this guy on a silver platter.
Contact the outfit providing the server. Explain and ask them to shut the site down and contact the administrator. They will have her email address. If the site is up, have a friend just look at the bottom of the home page to see who is providing the server.
I have her email adress… I actually have three… I also tried calling her. meh.
I can’t go say to the host: The admin isn’t really the admin, I’m the good guy… kick them out? I don’t think they’ll put much faith in my credentials. They’re not answering my email anyway.
Thanks for helping, though, guys. Maybe I’ll try some more this weekend…
