Been listening to Gadafi’s son defend his father’s rule
against the tide of world condemnation
I liked the sincerity in his young voice and face when he stated Plan A - Fight for Libya to the death
Plan B - Fight for Libya to the death
Plan C - Fight for Libya to the death
I know that it takes a ruthless man to try and rule forty tribes
and how difficult it must be to break 40 eggs
and make a national omelet
I stopped by in Libya once 30 years ago
and read Gadafi’s little proclamations written by himself
posted in strategic locations all over Tripoli
all urged his nation to unite and do good
Maybe
just maybe
we are all fundamentally wrong about this Libya uprising
one thing I do know
I admire any man who raises a son to respect him
and is willing
three times over
to take a bullet for him
Shaka Zulu was considered a tyrannical dictator
he put to death tens of thousands of his people
in that process he welded 80 petty clans into a single power unit
today he is worshiped as the Father of the Zulu nation
If you feel compelled to rebel against the status quo
at least have a post rebellion plan
for a better life
and make sure before you move on it
that you are going to win
MM, these people didn’t plan a rebellion. A young man by the name of Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire in Tunisia. His action led to ‘a change’ in government. This inspired the people of Egypt. This led to a change of leadership in government. This inspired the people of Libya.
How old was his son when a plane dropped out of the sky over Scotland?
This thread pretty much goes against the grain of everything you have ever posted.
Poor Chomsky, can hardly even bring himself to say one positive thing about the West. He even had to begrudgingly admit after being probed several times that the Western invention of the internet was a good thing .
For Western intervention it’s damned if they do damned if they don’t.
young men will always
and must always
rebel against tyrannical rule
go speak to any young bull in the forest
and he will instinctively agree
by nature he is forced to butt heads with the big bull
the point I am making
is what new rule will any young bull institute
if not eventually just more of the same?
How many saints do you think are among the rebels?
Every bloody revolution
throughout time
has ended up back where it started
with every best intention
money and power inevitably gravitate back into the coffers of the few
and corrupt everything
every time
Ha! that may be true, again I say “may” be so. If you believe in the iron law of oligarchy which I do slightly but not wholeheartedly,(I believe it to be partly true).
That though is ommiting the fact that
they are overthown
“every” time.
It seems like you are trying to imply that these power shifts are ultimately futile, far from it they are necessary in order to establish far more just governments. When the original leaders pass on, there descendents build on their predecesors words and if all goes well they are prosperous and just for many years (a century, centuries or millenia) or if there descedents forget, corrupt or disregard their forebears wisdom then they quickly crumble. Understand though that it is when people are apathetic and selfish that these usurpers (the unjust oligarchies) come to power because the common man does not look to see if his government is in good health and when these corrupt men come to power, steal from their citizens and make terrible decisions in governance it is ultimately the fault of the citizens that this was allowed by them to occur, even if they did not wish it, they allowed it to happen.
It is a cycle of justice an injustice there is no ultimate victory for the just or the corrupt, the citizens of a nation, tribe or empire themselves help choose directly or indirectly what type of government they live under.
There is no futility in trying to help the next few centuries be brighter, just don’t expect it to last forever or your hope will be crushed in a instant.
