Garbage for God?

Every time something bad happens in the world, it can be seen as a blessing in disguise!

Like abortion for example. God is handing Christians an entire army on a silver platter, but instead of adoptions increasing, we have massive deaths. (With as many churches as we have in America, a concentrated effort would end abortion. It should be easier to give your baby away than kill him.)

I would suggest similarly that this current economic “crisis” (or tragedy) offers Christians an equally good opportunity for evangelism.

Suppose the youth were segmented into small groups–novel concept, I know–and assigned one weekend a month to perform tasks for the community? Old people need their gutters cleaned, groceries fetched, and their lawns mowed.

Imagine a society that came to rely on the Christian church for such tasks instead of the government?

Heck…I think a small community church could instigate a program of trash collection (for instance) just to spite the local government. What an amazing vision:

“The people rely on Christ for salvation…to keep their lives clean…and NOT the state!”

Oh how wonderful it would be to handle garbage under such a circumstance! I’d do it in a heartbeat if I had about 10 other like minded friends watching my back (to help keep the flies off!)

Is the, er, vision that having my gutters cleaned by Christians will turn me into a Christian? Can I bake them some cookies instead? :angelic-cyan:

People having been taking charity from the church for decades without being converted, I don’t see what would change now?

As long as my trash gets picked up, I don’t care who does it. If Christ wants to pick up my trash for free, then God bless America.

Hmmm. Like a caste system. Christians pick up trash and mow lawns.

And leave education and the government to…hmmmmmmmm…how about atheists?

And we’d leave the professions and entertainment/media to jews.

Oaky. Not everything would change, then.

There is a larger point here that I believe has been missed.

While “conversion” is certainly a hoped for thing in any situation, the point of taking dominion over society is to reverse the trend of “messianic statism” and put the focus back on the cultural institution of the Church.

Mr. Hume, if you’ll read Alexis DeTocqueville’s “Democracy in America” you’ll see that early American transactions were covenant based instead of backed by the state.

I could expound on the Christian theory of state, and how to take dominion over a corrupt, tyrannical government…but…perhaps I’ll save it for later.

Oh. I get it now. No wonder the FBI wouldn’t hire me. You mean a theocratic coup.

Hey, it worked in Iran.

It’s what Jesus would have wanted.

It certainly “worked” in Rome…that’s for sure.

And, yes…Christ does want it this way.

Wouldn’t it be easier just to keep electing Republicans?

Don’t the Republicans only claim Christian values for the easy votes? Don’t they represent corporations first and foremost, and Christians second? I mean, maybe if you look closely they’re not Christian enough either, and we still need to have some sort of silent internal litter-picking jihad as shotgun suggests.

Okay, zeus. You caught me in another atheist lie.

Nice work.

I just don’t want them in my yard.

Makes me nervous.

Very funny Mr. Zeus…

If they represent Christians “second” I’d hate to see what their third, or fourth representations are.

I consider it more like…raping the valuable Christian voting block by giving lip service to evangelical principals, only to slam the door in our face once they’re in office.

John McJowell didn’t even have the decency to do THAT this go’ round, although his gaggling “camp” quickly remedied the oversight by appointing that tongue babbling humanistic statist, Palin.

Hope for all of us is in the Christian church…I’d certainly appreciate some cookies too…by the way…hint hint…
