Are people negative by nature? Just naturally inclined to dwell upon the flaws and imperfections of things? To miss the trees for the forest…or is it the forest for the trees? I always get that one mixed up, as far as I’m concerned both trees and forests are cool, so I’m unsure which one carries the negative connotation…anywayyy…
Would life be better if you stopped bitching? If you would stop whining about what-is-not, and just enjoyed the what-is.
Take games for instance, games are structured upon rules. The rules suport the platform on which we are to enjoy our play. But most people opt to climb down from the playing field in order to scratch their arse on the structure. I say, “Give it a rest just come and play the game” But no, they insist, they insist they can’t enjoy the game without correcting the structure.
Leave the structure be. Maybe it’ll just naturally evolve according to its own nature. Maybe it’ll naturally evolve in accordance to the game played upon it. Like a top-down kinda thing…
Maybe society is like a game too, maybe it’s just there to be enjoyed without having to worry about the structure of things too much…or would this be anti-philosophical?
It has alot to do with our individuality at odds with our social drive. Any social creature does this, some more as in humans some less as in livestock herd animals.
Changing the sway of society such that positive yields positive requires sacrifice until the sway is accomplished. Just as in all wars, those on the front line (first on the bandwagon) gain the least. And if the war isn’t won, lose it all.
I don’t believe that. I think the universe is just fine doing its own thing. And that humans are “on the one hand the tormented and on the other tormentors.”
The universe is at the end of a long list of reasons why people are negative.
And what of people who are positive? Do they merely ascribe different adjectives to it than your “brutal, amoral, and indifferent?”
Essentially, I think people function better when their horizon is much more down to Earth. Getting all upset over an uncaring universe is absurd, to be honest.
Bitching is. A world without bitching is not the one we have. So you can apply your own idea to yourself. That said, the above seems to imply that one cannot both participate in what is AND bitch about it and seek to change it. As if what is was static and the urges to change and improve were not part of what is in ongoing processes. If one is, say, treated unfairly by some facet of society, one can, and generally does, nevertheless participate in other parts with pleasure, satisfaction or at least without complaint, while at the same time bitching about what is unfair.
Imagine sending your message to slaves. Stop whining about racism and your mistreatment. Enjoy what is. Now the amazing thing is, they probably did. Parents, when their kids did something cute, likely laughed and were proud. They probably enjoyed a meal when it was OK. But it would not be strange for them also to bitch, at least out of earshot of overseers.
Yes, I agree. Although, I had a certain type of person in mind when I wrote the OP, those people who invent for themselves enemies and obstacles in the world that only serve to prevent them from enjoying life, enemies and obstacles that are simply fantasies born of their own failures and frustration.
I don’t think you can generalize something like this, being a negative or postive person very much falls into the area of the individual. I disagree that negativity is necessarily a reaction to the cruel world we live in, as postulated by one of the other posters, I think at least partially it has be biology - how are we wired? Then you start throwing life on top of wiring. There are a lot of personalities out there, some of them prone to negativity and some of them not.
btw - it’s “can’t see the forest for the trees”, and neither forest nor tree carries a negative connotation. It’s just a phrase used to describe missing the big picture because you’re too focused on the details
I saw this survival program once. It was about getting lost in the jungle. And he said that you shouldn’t just walk straight, as you’ll end up going in circles due to your leading foot (whether your right footed or left footed). So, the wise thing to do is to take a step to the left every now and again (assuming your right-footed).
