So this thread is an offshoot of the Universal truth thread i posted… kinda got sidetracked so here is the continuation!
So from the previous posts im going to start out with this:
Soliloquy… fate based on choice… thats pretty much the biggest contradiction ever…
I wouldn’t go and start insulting robots just as yet… as soon as artificial intellegence gets a little better im pretty sure they will be quite offended by your remark. After all humans and robots are made of the same stuff…aka atoms.
Haha, but I believe we are given a soul and with that soul comes choice.
It’s not a contradiction at all. Who says you can’t choose your own fate, you do, in fact. This is where the cycle is maintained. Through past experience and knowledge we decide on a choice for the future in the present. Jesus died for you, you now(while you are alive) have the ability to make the decision between belief or disbelief, in the future this will effect your eternal being once your soul has left its flesh(its choosing time).
Logic says you can’t choose your own fate because:
Fate:
1.The supposed force, principle, or power that predetermines events.
2.The inevitable events predestined by this force.
A final result or consequence; an outcome.
3.Unfavorable destiny; doom.
4.Fates Greek & Roman Mythology. The three goddesses, Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, who control human destiny. Used with the. (greek mythology kicks ass p.s.)
Choice:
1.The act of choosing; selection.
2.The power, right, or liberty to choose; option.
3.One that is chosen
4.A number or variety from which to choose: a wide choice of styles and colors.
5.The best or most preferable part.
6.Care in choosing.
7.An alternative.
I’d like to thank dictionary.com for pointing out the obvious…uuhhh
Any choice you make in a system where u believe in fate is an illusion
I’m also pretty sure im not making a choice if I am getting hit by a car while walking down the street with me not knowing.
And for that matter who is “we”? Who gets a soul?
Consider this thought experiment:
If you were the last person on earth and at the instant of your death you could have the choice to destrory every living and non living thing on the planet. Would you? would it even make a difference?
The name of the philosopher who derrived this experiment illudes me at the moment sorry old boy…
Logic says you can’t, God says you can. In order to have a fate you would need a preternatural force, God being this force. Fate comes after choice in this case. God does not have power over whether or not you want to believe, but he does have power over making your choice happen. Once you have made your choice you cannot go back, that is what’s meant by fate.
It seems u have redefined the word “fate” here…
for something to be Predetermined it is absolutely nessisary that it be PRE-determined… lol
Not just determined…
THANK YOU!!!
Soliloquy you keep proving my point! Of course we cannot go back on a choice… thats why it is called a choice. Choices effect the future, the way we live…yes! you are right! but that is not fate… read the definition of the word and you will see the contradiction
Right, pre as in incomplete and determining while your soul is on earth and when you die fate is completed and determined.
nonono kid… pre as in… Already sorted out! Thats what fate means.

dictionary.com saves the day again!
are you getting it yet?
Fate is determined while u’re here on earth?
Wouldn’t that just be “future” and not “fate” ??
Why do u insist on using the word “fate” when u clearly redefine it every time? why not use another word which is more accurate?
Like “Your future is determined by ur choices”
Which is much more agreeable…
Ok…an illustration: Pre=option+You=choice+Determined=fate
Before+Now+After
Soliloquy this is all very cute… I am soo confused can we do 1 equal sign per line?
Hahaha. I confuse myself Although, I don’t see how it doesn’t make sense. You determine your fate. Your fate determines you.
I see… I think i understand what u are trying to say now…
So u have a choice all the same… but seeing as how God/fate whatever is atemporal and trancends time… it all is irrelevent whether it was determined before or after ur choice… ??
am i close?
Yes, that’s it for the most part. God knows what you’ll choose but he doesn’t choose for you.
Can’t be that… Fate doesn’t trancend time… because it describes it. What you are “fated” to do is a way of describing physical actions in the physical world.
K soliloquy then basically what u are saying is that there is no fate. Everyone is making choices and god is just chillin in the metaphysical world observing. So choice is the only thing.
No, I’m saying that fate is choice, it’s inbetween and holds the option and totality of itself when given by God.
