If God is a supremely perfect being, meaning, amoung other things, that he could not be in an unsatisfactory state and prefer to be in another possible future state, then how is it possible for him to have purposes or goals, and to have created the universe?
If His goals or desires involve something outside Himself (such as, interaction with other free Beings), then it would be consistant, since the existence of other free Beings is not part of the definition of a single, perfect Being. I think free will may be the only solution to this problem- the potential for creatures to perform in a completely unpredictable, uncontrolled fashion provides God with something He can’t directly create.
aaron03,
You begin your post with the ‘If’. By what methodology do you assign attributes to the concept of creator?
