Leviticus 11:9-12 says:
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

Deuteronomy 14:9-10 says:
9 These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:
10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.

In ancient times, people knew nothing about germs and bacteria and stuff, so whenever disease infected livestock or sea creatures or whatever, God had to warn them to lay off eating it for a while, that’s all…
Look, right from the start he said -
“Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything” (Genesis 9:3)
Then later he had to warn people to lay off some stuff like I said, then later still Jesus gave the all-clear -
“What goes into a man’s mouth does not make him unclean” (Matt 15:11)
Yet the Jews are still stuck in the Old T and can’t enjoy a big mac because they think God still wants them to avoid pork :wink:
As for seafood -

I think the whole reason was they did not have cocktail sauce or garlic butter yet. That was why it was forbidden. I mean sometimes man is just so slow. :laughing:

On a serious note: I must agree with Mick in all probability the wiser heads figured out that shellfish can carry deadly diseases so they used a Godly admonition to proscribe them.

The stupidity behind this logic is astounding.

Jews (good Jews) don’t eat shrimp and aren’t gay.
Christians (good Christians) can eat shrimp, and don’t harm gays.

The condemnation of a defined abomination does not apply to Christians or to Jews, or Muslims.

It would be a good idea to have a general understanding of biblical doctrine before you recommend to others that they use their brains when you clearly forgot to do the same.

The ‘stupidity’ behind this logic is simple, Thirst; you either believe EVERYTHING in the bible or you allow others to be creative in their interpretations too.

If the xtians are saying “the bible says sodomy is an abomination” (remember that applies to heterosexuals too) then the gay rights people are saying eating sea food is also an abomination – pretty straight forward.

Perhaps it was the simplicity and directness you might have found ‘stupid”? Perhaps it was the fun way they highlighted xtian hypocrisy that you found‘stupid’? Or did you just say that because you didn’t have anything intelligent to say and you just felt like trolling (again)?

I was studying for the priesthood, Thirst so I think I have a good understanding of the ‘biblical doctrine’ thank you very much.

What about you? How many years of study have you undergone to give you your vast knowledge on xtianity?

Did you know that almost all christians are “apostates”?

Bible commandments are “perfect, strait from God”, etc.

If you break God’s laws and say God wanted it to be that way, you’re apostate-blasphemers.

It’s basically like this:

I don’t give a flying fuck what you or anyone else believes in the bible. But you are:

(a) either associating one abomination (shrimp) with another abomination (homosexuality) which only applies to Jews or

(b) you are associating one abomination (shrimp) with another abomination which DOES NOT apply to Christians thanks to the so-called new covenant

And the fact is that they are WRONG. Eating sea food is not an abomination to most Christians and it is biblically CLEAR that this is so.

Please notice how Jesus still draws a line between Shrimp (a food) and sexual immorality (like homosexuality) beginning in verse 20.

I would hope that too but I can only see the opposite happening; Xtians are becoming more political, less accepting of a secular society and its freedoms and more evangelically fascist.

The photo below is an example of hijacking secular/political symbols and using them to advance their own ideologies. Lady Liberty’s torch, the Illuminati (“bare light” – seeing, light, knowledge) has been replaced by a singular religious symbol. If this doesn’t disturb you, nothing will.

The way Iran treats its citizens is TOTALLY IRRELEVANT to how my government treats its citizens. TOTALLY AND ABSOLUTELY IRRELEVANT.

My priorities are clear. If I’m going to fight for a secular democracy with values worth dying for then it has to be a secular democracy not a religious/corporate war machine. That’s number one priority – everything else comes after that.

If our secular democracies begin to morph into a xtian theocracies (even if its 1000 times better than the Iranian model), I don’t care, my fight will turn inward towards our own political structure first.

Another way to view my prioritize is this: “Why do you see the speck in your neighbour’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye?” Jesus.

PS I posted that photo (with others) a while ago on ILP, so I know about it and have registered my abhorrence with the Iranian Embassy over this. There’s been something like 4000 gay hangings since the beginning of Iran’s theocracy.
