The True Nature of Good and Evil
The true nature of good and evil is not as it is perceived by the vast majority of people. It cannot be fully comprehended by the human perception. We cannot see into the future we can only see the present and see into the past. So the only way to judge an act as good or evil is to look back on them. But even then our perception can block the facts needed to support this thought. Our perception as humans is so limited that we will never truly be able to grasp the true concept of good and evil.
For example if someone were to walk up to a tiny child and shoot them in the head and kill them we would view this as an evil happening. To our perception it would seem to be a horrible occurrence. But in the grand scheme of things it could have just saved countless lives. I am in no way condoning the taking of lives because for the most part it will just make the world a worse place. But say if someone would have done this to Hitler as a child no one could rule out the fact that a great genocide would never have happened.
Another way to look at it from the opposite side of the table is the fall of Rome. The Goths were basically going extinct and asked the Romans for help the Romans agreed to let them live on some of their land. Then later after they had repopulated they rose up and destroyed the Roman civilization. The destruction of all they had worked so hard for and fought for was all for nothing thanks to one seemingly good deed. If they would have simply refused the Goths then many more lives could have been saved and countless innocents would have been spared.
Tell me what you think.
If looking into the future of a person’s life could possibly save hundreds, thousands or even millions by killing them before those crimes are commited, reminds me of the "Minority Report’ of sorts. This sets up strange paradoxes. What if a few of the people that person kills perpetrates heinous crimes too? Plus, this sets up a situation where that entity puts itself into an interfering god ‘as it were’. Thus, free will is commuted as a non sequitur for humanity.
It’s better to allow free will because I feel there are more good ripple effects than bad ones. This leaves the potential for people to grow spiritually. Placing ourselves in the position of God with our sets of values and reasoning is like putting a primate in charge of a star ship to search out alien life forms. This would be dangerous at best making it an ambassador for mankind.
