To transcend the boundaries of space and time. These are what limit our collective knowledge and power. By transcending these with new technologies, we increase our knowledge and power indefinitely, sometimes exponentially. By living longer we accumulate more knowledge and wisdom, by devising ways to move information and ourselves faster and easier, mentally and physically, we accumulate more raw power. The mental sphere that comprises human collective consciousness best justifies its existence by continually growing, albeit in spurts and bounds.
I would let someone post before me, but I am impatient. Also impartial.
Do you realise that this one-liner actually attempts to demonstrate one of the great tragedies of modern times. It does not belong here any more than a bird in a cage. You might want to simplify what it is you are about to say, rather than send us all into a spiral of melodramatic nonesense.
I tend to agree. With no clear purpose, it seems logical to strive for the eternal. Its really what all life already does, tries and tries until it evolves into more complex forms.
I also find it a modern tragedy that, having understood what was to be conveyed, people will avoid addressing the main topic to point out a shortcoming of another. It would be like using an overabundance of overly complex and abstract words to convey a fairly simple point, except that it has even far less place in a medium meant for opening minds.
I personally think a cage is a great place for a bird. I mean, what better place to… wait, getting off topic because you’ve used a statement that lacks resolution and clarity, when a simpler, less abstract sentence could’ve been used (i.e. “Unnecessarily complex wording does not belong here”).

How could I simplify it more?
And isn’t complexity but a means to the end that I have described?
jesus…i know you don’t need to academically study philosophy to practice philosophical thought…but some of these posts are getting a bit ridiculous. people need to quit inflating their language and state well-thought, concise, and cogent ideas. if you would submit these ideas in class the prof would look at you like “wtf are you on?” i mean the topic is “philosophical reasons to live” and most of the discussion is nonsense. sorry for the rant…i just saw the topic and was hoping there’d be some existential discussion…ya know…sartre and camus’ reasons not to comit suicide etc. just a little frustrated…peace
There was no word I used in the first post that wasn’t necessary to explain my point. It was a well thought, concise idea. I don’t understand this negativity. How could I have made it clearer?
…no insult intended truly! But consider we still depend “at this point in time” on carbonized plants and dinosaurs from 300 million years ago! We’ve hardly reached level 0 in technology and with all the crap that’s going on in the world it’s debatable if we’re even going to reach level 1…but I admire your optimism - I used to have it myself! You can have ALL the technology conceivable but in the end STUPIDITY will preempt it! You can ALWAYS depend on the Human Race for THAT!
