So how true is it? How significant is it? Should we be worried about it?
Even if a tiny part of it is true, to what degree is this political interference in people’s lives the direct result of the diminution of freedoms signalled by the massive growth in “Homeland” security, surveillance and drops in personal freedom since 2001?
And PLEASE no anti-Obama rants. The chance he has even heard about this, let alone has anything to do with it is too remote to warrant a mention.
His administration has been one of the harshest with whisteblowers. He cannot be ignorant about that and I do not see him as particularly interested in free speech. (and I am not right wing or concerned that he is black and so on) Obviously if it is true, then it is a serious problem. I tried the link but I hit a dead end.
If you threaten the life of the president in any fashion including on face book
you are subject to arrest, period. There have been many reports of people threating
Obama on various media and the secret service takes each and every threat serious.
so if you threaten a government official in any fashion, you can expect a visit from
the secret service and/or the local police.
This is not a “whistle blower issue”.
Do you not think it best to first assess the validity and significance of the “news” item rather than jump on the anti-obama band wagon?
A threat on Facebook has the same legal force as one made face to face. Is there specific evidence that this guy made a threat?
So the next question is; how do we get from one guy making a threat to a generalised statement from a media outlet which makes claims that there is a general policy of attacking free speech?
And how is it people prefer to believe the worst?
So, if it is the case that they are threatening the life of the president then it is simply business as usual, but if it not the case, then I assume you would also have a problem with such arrests? or?
UM, 1) as I said I tried the link and reached a dead end. It did not work for me. IOW I could not evaluate the significance/validity of the ‘news’ item since the link did not work for me. Perhaps this is because I am in Europe, who knows. But it explains why I did not analyze whatever was on the end of your link. 2) I am not jumping on any bandwagon. I base my critique of his administrations treatment of whistleblowers on many articles I read including ones from the left. I mention his administration’s policies in another areas of frees speech to show that there is a pattern and your dismissal of potentially associating Obama may not be a valid dismissal, even if it turns out to be true he is unaware of this specific curtailment of free speech. 3) I clearly stated I connected his treatment of whistleblowers to free speech. I think one can connect punishment of anti-obama facebook posts to free speech issues. Labelling someone who criticizes a specific facet of an administration Anti-X is mindless insult categorization. For all you know I could support Obama in general or prefer him to any recent candidate from either of the two parties that stand a chance of winning. I took YOUR op seriously, could not follow the link, questioned the dismissal of assigning potential responsibility to Obama given his administration’s treatment of other free speech issues - and treatment that has gotten a lot of press from all kinds of journals, so he must know about it - and then responded that if it were true, it would be a problem. IOW I weighed in on the issue. I wish you would read less sloppily, respond less arrogantly and as if to some other post rather than the one you seem to be responding to and manage to not hallucinate onto a post that was in fact in part agreeing with your OP. But I should have known this is problematic for you and I will put you back on ignore.
The Idiot actually was humble, not arrogant, compassionate and though flawed responded to the people around him not merely his projections on them. What you do here is the opposite of much of this and the title of the novel, in this context, is not in any way ironic.

(ILP truncates the link so I’ve included in in text with the http removed.
I just think this is one small example of a trend initiated by the Bush regime in line with “homeland security”.
But alone I think it has precious little to do with Obama himself or his aspirations for personal freedom and free speech.
So let’s look at the rest of your post:
The article talks about making threats to Obama, and points the the authorities characterising such behaviour as mental illness. It has nothing whatever to do with whistle blowing, not the administration’s treatment of whistleblowers. If you can’t see this is a different issue, and choose to making something of THIS case in light of that, then it is that confusion that I wanted to discuss, as well as the tendency to generalise from one case.
Whistle blowing is about a breach of contract in the case of Bradley Manning. The case above is about incitement and threat of violence and armed insurrection which the homeland security people take seriously in the US due to the many examples over the last few decades.
You might want to look up Brandon Raub on Facebook, and see for yourself. I understand the specific threats have been removed by Facebook. He is no fan of Obama though. I think the fact that he is so against gun control on the grounds of defending against the government and having so many posts against the government add up to a serious threat. Being ex-marine, taught to kill, he looks like the next spree killer in the making to me.
I’ll ignore the rest as it is an unjustified rant and insult.
The last link you posted is the one I started with.
It is basically contentless. It talks about one guy: Brandon Raub, and generalises this to a sensationalist headline.
You are at the mercy of SPIN.
Just to give you a hint;
On the Catholic website, a thread was presented asking why Republicans don’t trust Obama. All of the posts following it were complimentary to Obama, not answering the OP question at all, or even addressing it. So I posted, in no uncertain terms, that Obama has proven to be a liar and a fraud. Due to that one post, I was banned for life with appended legal warnings to never even attempt to sign onto their site again. Obama is Muslim.
The world isn’t working the way they have made it seem. The “good guys” aren’t the “good” guys. The “bad guys” aren’t either really. “Where have all the good guys gone? Long time passing.” But that’s the world you live in. The real truth is NOT in what you are shown. And the deception is strongly protected even to the point of murdering if necessary (and often even when not). “Comply or Die”. But of course, silly half asleep Americans just can’t believe things could possibly be as bad as they really are, “people wouldn’t really do that”. So the show goes on.
Not only that but there is no real proof yet that Obama did not mastermind 9/11. Or, for that matter, the Kennedy assassination. After all, everyone knows that you can’t trust Kenyans.
What you mean 99% of the world who thinks Obama is a Christian as he says, and as he practices, as against 1% of strange people who think he is an alien and/or a Muslim?
Let me think??? Who shall I believe?
None of the above.
Where is your fucking evidence? That is what I am interested in, not rabble rousing.
Are you an eight year old that you finally worked out the myth of the “good guy verses bad guy”??
If you can’t work from evidence, then you might as well keep to your childish angst and scweem and scweem until you are sick.
If BO is a Muslim tell me how he just picked up the tab for the last Israeli arms bill?
Why he has not joined the majority of other world leaders in condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza?
