I have a printer/copier from an office which is not compatible to my XP. I downloaded the drivers, but without an installation disk, I can’t see to get it to recognize them. Could one of you computer wizards give me some advice? Make it simple. Pleeeeeeeeease?

Well, you knew to download the drivers, at least. The installation disk is basically just the driver on a CD with autorun, usually. Did you actually runthe drivers? Sometimes the drivers want it to be plugged in or unplugged when you run them. I remember some of the most annoying driver problems I ever had were with an MP3 player that the proprietary drivers couldn’t recognize for some reason. Also, when you plug it in, something in XP should pop up, and say that new hardware was found, and it should ask you what drivers to use. If the drivers are not an executable, or zip, or something you have to DO something to, choose their folder as where to search for drivers.
OR
If the drivers claim to be installed… hit start, run, then type in “control” and hit enter. Go down to Printers and Faxes. If you don’t see that hit the P key. Click add a printer. It’s fairly straightforward from here on.
Speaking of destroyed harddrives, I have one that randomly “corrupts” files, and it’s really, really annoying. When it does one of those disk-checks on boot, sometimes it takes 3 hours to boot. Not that I let it. It’s a common brand, too. We’re gonna have to send it back. Of course, the idiots at their help desk will probably assume that it’s because we have a D partition.
lol I thought it might be like… you know… one of those really old ones that uses the printer port. DOES IT HAVE A MANUEL? lol. What brand/model is it… and don’t you have a help desk at work?
I can dowload the manual - easy; downloaded the drivers too, but it acts like it hasn’t been installed. I don’t work where I got it, but needed it for working at home… I have called Sharp and they said downloading the drivers was enough, Grrrr.
I don’t do manuals. Whenever I have, they talk over my head.
maybe you need to turn on the printer for windows to recognize it… I won’t be able to try to help again till sunday at best, because I’m at schoola right now (restricted computers) and I’m visiting relatives this weekend, but a good first step would be to check if windows sees anything plugged in at all.
