Happy pig or unhappy Socrates?

Would you rather be a happy pig or an unhappy socrates?

Take your pick.

I voted happy pig. It’s elitist to think that Socrates is better than the pig.

Give me contentment any day

Me too. I mean, what do people have against pigs?!

What’s the point of knowledge if all it does is inform of inadequacies which leads to un-hapiness?
Happiness, of course.

Um I have nothing against pigs, I mean I love my pork chops BUT I voted unhappy socrates. I can understand the logic of voting happy pig however I would argue that human happiness and porcine happiness are two entirely different entities which would be appreciated contrastingly. One person in this thread has mentioned contentment. I think the pig’s ultimate potential is drastically limited compared to the human’s. I don’t know but I mean would everyone who voted Happy Pig feel the same if the question was Happy ant or unhappy Socrates? and I mean a pig’s happiness would still be a kinda bland thing. However human unhappiness can be temporary and an unhappy Socrates still has the potential to see the sublime in the universe and even possibly find true love, or some kind of purpose to soothe his unhappy soul. I guess I’m saying an unhappy Socrates still has hope for a much more meaningful existence than a superficially ‘happy’ pig.

That’s my take

I think the purpose of putting pig as opposed to ant is that the pig is the ultimate metaphor for an instinctive self-involved person. Choosing happy pig is not literally choosing to be the animal, but choosing to have one’s instincts satisfied and being easily satisfied, as opposed to the nihilistic/manic depressive personality that follows the constant analysing and separation from reality of most “thinkers”. At least, that’s my take on the matter and why I still stick by the pig.

I have a tendency to think of both choices as oxymorons.

A pig can’t be happy and Socrates can’t be unhappy?

Yes, they can.

Hell yeah. Who says fulfilling instincts is not the best form of pleasure?

Sure, although you’ll get a variety of answers regarding what “fulfilling instincts” means in the context of “best form of pleasure”.

Yeah no doubt. I’m bored though…

Haha.
