It is soooo good. It is a recipe that was passed down for generations in my family, so make it one of yours. Whenever I serve it - people always ask for the recipe.
Four heads of red cabbage shredded (like coleslaw, not too fine)
One large onion
One apple
whole cloves
sugar
apple cider vinegar
Saute the chopped onion. Cut a tart apple in half and stud it with whole cloves. Put it on top of the onion. Fill a big pot with the cabbage. Put on low- med heat and add about 1/2 cup of the vinegar and 1/2 cup sugar. Keep watching because it burns easily. (this is fun giving this to you… mine is on the stove right now!)
Now here is where the (“I don’t measure” part comes in) About every half hr I add a little more vinegar and a little more sugar. Add at least 2 tsp. of salt and stir frequently. The apple kind of falls into the mixture…
Don’t overcook the cabbage… taste it. If it is too tart - you need more sugar. Too sweet? Add more vinegar. Too bland? Add some salt. Sounds complicated but you will love it with any meal, and with all the carbs in T-giving, it balances it all out. Enjoy!
So I usually avoid the family at all costs. We have a tendency to feud and that makes ‘holiday’ gatherings a problem. So no. No turkey for me.
I did burn the shit outta my mouth and nose while eating sushi in the parking lot of Harris-Teeter. I am unwise in the way of Oriental cuisine and had not yet become aquainted with wasabi sauce.
Who would think that a dab the size of a pencil eraser would do you? I put a huge glop on one of the sea-weed rolls and stuffed the thing in my mouth.
There is no turning back. Once contact has been made between the surface tissue and the sauce, you’re doomed. Spitting it out won’t neutralize the effects. Of course I already starting chewing it so it was way late for me.
You do not slap a wad of wasabi onto your sushi and eat it. Wasabi is used like a sort of seasoning in your soy sauce. You drop a small bit of wasabi into your little bowl of soy sauce, mix, and then dip the sushi into the soy sauce.
It just makes the soy sauce spicier.
Best of luck in your future sushi eating endeavors,
I can’t help you in the parking lot, but if you get a mouthful of too damned hot at the table, grab a spoon and throw some sugar in your mouth. The sugar kills the fire. Please don’t ask how I learned this
I’m sure when you realised that you’d reached a certain point of no return regarding the wasabi sauce that you would have preferred (as with the pain in your foot) to think about something else and not be aware of it. It would have, for example, been of benefit to you to be able to ignore the taste in your mouth and listen to the conversation at a nearby table, all the while surreptitiously slurping suger out of a nearby bowl using a straw…
i made 3 pies for thanksgiving. they turned out delicious and i had a hard time convincing people that they werent storebought
the third pie was just apples, brown sugar, butter, and flower along with a substantial amount of cinnamon and covered with granulated suger. yummy…
the dough for the pumpkin pie i used for all three, and for the second pie listed i did that woven thing for the top and brushed it with beaten egg and sugar.
for the two apple pies i did not bother to freeze the pie crust, and they turned out just fine! does anyone know why you must freeze it anyways?
they weer so yummy that i ate all of the leftovers oink
Ok km, I have my photos of my deeelicious dinner. Send me your email, and I’ll sing you a song and I’ll try not to sing out of key. Ooooh I get by with a little help from my friends… oooh I get high with a little help from my friends… Ooooh (sorry… a night of shameless drinking.)
Embrace - I made my famous sour cream apple pie - and when I have a sec, I I’ll copy it down. I love to make pies.
