Has any member written/ published a book yet?

What is the title, and what is it about?

I find it very difficult to published a book or bring an article to public , for I feel that there is this feeling of doubt getting to me. How did you overcame this?

For I am in the journey of discovering my ignorance.

I wrote a book a few years ago because I was driven to do it. I obsessed about it, but it was the story that inspired me not the publishing process. I tried for a few months to publish it, but became bored with the rejections… whether you want to admit it, this is not a generation of reading anymore, and the market is flooded by trash. So even if it is really good, you need a hook, five minutes of fame, luck, or a nice slice of nepotism. One of my best friends is a VERY famous writer and he is finding it impossible to get his latest piece published. What does that tell you?

Think —>doing it because you love it. Then, have it copyrighted, and put it on the net. Give it to your friends and family. All my “people” loved my book and I even sent it to a few of my friends here at ILP. I loved the process of telling my story. Period.

Also, for a price you can publish anything you want yourself. Authorhouse.com is a good company and they will even market it for you. My advice?

Give a president a blowjob and you are in in about an hour.

“How to Make Love Question Style”

I’m putting the finishing touches on a full length novella right now.

I doubt it’ll be published but… I’m still the shit :sunglasses:

Everyone has a book in them. Personally I think most should try and flush it out if they have the opportunity.

I don’t know if everyone has a book, but at least some work of art.

Impulse to create, the God in man and all that…

I have written an as-yet unpublished novel of some 1,752 pages, entitled (tentatively) On the Road with a Portrait of the Artist as a Catcher in the Rye.

It’s a sort of “slowly coming of age” book. The action takes place entirely inside a 1972 Chrysler New Yorker, which is easier than you might think if you haven’t actually owned a '72 New Yorker. I did, until I lost it to a wager on an NBA finals between the Boston Celtics and the L. A. Lakers - specifically to Robert Parrish’s stone hands.

It recounts the late adolescence of Noel Bleekerman, an itinerant dishwasher, piano tuner, and closet-organising consultant as he drives across the American Midwest with an old duffelbag, an even older, tonedeaf daschund and a family heirloom oil painting, searching for truth, meaning, and an art dealer with an eye for the unusal.

What he finds is a…but you’ll have to buy the book.

I’m about a quarter through writing a futurist novel (futurism is coming back in in the UK, fortunately for me) about football in the early 22nd century. I have every intention of trying to get it published, and I think it has enough hooks to land a whale. Of course, I’m writing the sort of novel I’d like to read, so I would think like that.

I’ve also written a futurist novel about a world where art, writing, music and so on are in great demand and so any writer, no matter how untalented, can make a living. Obviously this book follows a playwright who is best friends with someone who works in TV. I’ve never even tried to get it published. I probably should - I tried to get my second book published and got plenty of rejections, but that didn’t put me off. That one was a futurist cyberpunk novel about Virtual Reality and madness/premonitions. It is technically very complicated but apart from about 4 scenes, most of it isn’t good enough. Needs a major rewrite before I’ll show it to people again.

One thing that I’ve seriously considered is writing for radio. I listen to a reasonable amount of radio drama and lots of radio comedy, and I think that it’s a wonderful medium for aspiring writers and one that may rejuvenate due to the internet. The BBC has doubled its radio channels in the last 5 years…

I’ve written a novel without a title which is themed similarly to Lord of the Rings. Fantasy world of my own creation though. It’s too long to be published, according to my publisher grandfather.

here is the thing.

It is easy to write, but once it is finish now what, it is the publishers next?
It is easy to get it to a publisher who is little of quality, but most likely what ever you have written would either not be picked up at all or ever be noticed.

Bessy~

Will an actress get what they want, after sleeping with the cast director? Maybe but most likely she will end up in the losing side, and be cast away with all the fish.

I never heard of a book that is over 1000 pages, is this a collectors volume set you are writting? Which makes me wonder, will there be a person ever after writing over a 1000 pages, and figure out it is a piece of junk and burn it? I suppose they will just save it and set it aside.

I wrote a book. I called it “What’s Happening: a view of life”. I figure it took me about 38 years to write. I sent out a letter of inquiry, a letter most publishers request before accepting a manuscript for consideration. The letter was rejected. I didn’t try again because being pretty sure about what was happening I concluded I would have difficulty getting anyone to take the time to read the title let alone the 65 pages behind it.

Like Bessy said I figured I needed to be known so six years ago I transformed the 65 pages of prose into 6 pages of poetry and entered it in a poetry contest. I was a loser except that now I had 6 pages of poetry that were more likely to be read than 65 pages of prose. Five years ago I invited my parents to live with me so I had to store my poem. Two years ago my father died. Although he didn’t agree with me he always supported me so the day I picked up his ashes I decided if I left my poem in storage all the effort he put in me would be wasted.

So I took Bessy’s advice before I knew Bessy. In Feb 05 I bought my first computer, learned to type, set up a web site, published my poem and began adding other writings and pictures. Just over 3 months ago my very helpful web manager suggested I might be able to increase traffic to my site by getting involved with like minded people on the web. When I went looking I discovered ILP.

Since then I have had about 100 ILP generated hits. I know of one ‘angel’ who has read my poem because she asked permission to copy it. I continue to advertise my poem because everything I write whether prose or poetry is set in the context of my poem. To date I have had over 4600 hits on my poems and my thread. Yesterday I had one of those WTF days. As I write this though I am reminded it wouldn’t be possible had my father not left enough income to allow me the pleasure of hanging out with my mother and writing on the side. So I continue to thank my father.

I am not sure how long I will continue to ‘thank him’. Certainly until my mother dies. When that happens God help me. Maybe I will have enough motivation to borrow-to-buy faust’s book so I can get my morning surprise without having to go near my computer. I may ask Bessy to send me a copy of her book to comfort me while I read SIATD’s vision of the future.

It is these life tales I find myself in delight, not writings.

thank you for your wonderful information DEB.

If any of you do want to publish your book, listen to Bessy and try Authorhouse. Ask for Jamie Markus. She’ll give you the hook-up. Might even be able to work out a deal with you. An excllent person to work with.

You made my day dan. I am just leaving now to hang out at the farmer’s market for a few hours with my mother. Thanks to you I will enjoy a little more keeping her away from the pastries. Maybe the feeling will last until tomorrow. That would be a bonus.
