I am thinking of spending my fall 2005 semester studying abroad in London. Although Australia and Japan also seem to be interesting.
Who here has studied abroad? Or lived in one of the three countries mentioned?

Is this like the study abroad deal, for a semester ?
Ooops, I mean through the university that you are attending right now?
bill,
my wife spent a semester in London through our university and loved it. If you don’t intend to learn Japanese or you don’t learn it, you’ll just frustrate yourself by going to Japan. One of my friends went to visit another of our friends working in the JET program in Sendai. Visiting friend only knew anime japanese and had a helluva time in the country.
I have no intention of learning Japanese.
helloo, i live in a london suburb about 5 miles from central london. london’s a great place and i would definitaly recommend studying/staying or drinking here.
I live on the outskirts of London, i study at hertfordshire regional college, currently doing my alevels and hope to possibly study my degree in philosophy/english language at hertfordshire university as it is very highly reccomended now days or possibly at a london University. I have a friend who studies at Westminster uni and he reccomends that too.
Depending where in Australia you are talking about. If you are going to Brisbane, Melbourne, Darwin, and / or Sydney these are places I know you will have fun at. They don’t have a hatred towards Americans, and the women are aggressive. They will pick you up in a club / bar. Now I haven’t been there, but I’ve heard stories from various different individuals that have been there from the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Marines. In three years I’ve heard soooo many stories of the pleasures to be found in Australia. So be careful. You’ll leave Australia with a wife…hehe. Now I should know because I’m planning to move there Feburary 2006 to perform Magic / Mentalism in the Star City Casino in Sydney. I’ve done plenty of research.
Now Japan. You will be surprised how many of the Japanese have a basic understanding of the English language. But then again it depends where you go. You could go to m36comrel.blogspot.com to see some of the posts that I’ve made in regards to me learning and communicating with the Japanese. Don’t let the language be a big thing for you. I’ve been in Japan for not even two weeks and I could hold my own with the basics. I’m going to be here a year so I took it upon myself to learn. I learned how to speak in two days. The language isn’t hard, just learn how the grammer works (maybe an hour tops), memorize the sentence particles and how to make questions, and then all you need is a book full of verbs and nouns. And you can make it in Japan. Plus you can get to climb Mount Fuji, (see what I wrote about the Mount) and go to the fame clubs in Hiroshima.
London, I 'm dying to go to the UK. I love the British, great people, awesome sense of humour, but they aren’t too fond of Americans. But it doesn’t matter because I made a lot of British friends in the Royal Air Force and Marines and they didn’t blame me for being raised in New York. If I had a choice I would choose Australia. But that is a bias because I’m so in love with the idea of a land where women outnumber men and they are the ones flirting with the men.
I attend the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. I rate it, but I was born here and may be a little biased. The weather is brilliant here at the moment, but it can get a little hot in summer, last year we had an all-time record high of 41.5 degrees celsius in January. Now that was hot. I would consider Sydney and Melbourne (the weather isn’t as good) as well, but not Darwin, Adelaide or Perth. They are a bit far from anywhere if you want to see the major sites while you are here.
As for the girls, yes we do have some very nice girls. I’m not sure about them being aggresive, but I’m sure it would help your chances if you were a foreigner. I could just be used to their behaviour and thus do not consider them aggresive. The advantage of Brisbane in my opinion is that it is flanked by two surf coasts, with loads and loads of girls, and because it is pretty much warm/hot most of the year, there is plently of opportunities to make the most of it.
So there is my effort to boost tourism. I do so much for my country, haha
oh man, send me some pictures.!!! And if you know any ladies that is willing to be my pen pal… tell them to holla! I’m touching down in Sydney Feb. 26, 2006 we can prepare a party!
I am pretty sure that I will be spending a semester in London. I could have gone to Australia but only for a Maymester and it would cost 5000 grand. Way too much for only a month.
<~~~ still want to go to Australia… though staying in Japan the rest of my natural life isn’t a bad idea. This is the worlds’ best kept secret.
