I love how people refute what is already scientifically supported, as if a politically biased opinion changes fact.
Look at population predictions for North America, South America, Europe, China, India, Australia and the Middle East for the next 1/4 and 1/2 centuries, no one predicts falling populations. Africa is going to be the big loser, disease and warfare are doing their job of reducing populations there, overly drastically.
I guess we’ll just have to close our eyes and say everything will be alright no matter what, so that the politicians and politically minded can be comfortable in their delusions …
Oh hell, like that would be any change from the present mentalities.
Although you’re right, TV isn’t always trustworthy, consider this:
TV talks about overuse in third world countries, and how you, the consumer, needs to help, by donating a dollar a day!
Environmentalists talk about a problem that stretches across the ENTIRE world, and will, eventually, effect everyone. Granted, they also tell you to help the third world countries, but that tends to be a sidenote to their message. The bulk of it is that there will be, and indeed is, a slow decay of availability. Those of us in prominent first world countries will be the last to feel the bite, as we have access to more.
However, we do have the greatest example of all, in America: Inflation. Ever wonder why it used to cost so much less for everything? Why the divide between the lower and upper middle class has been growing? Its because availability is dropping fast, and its quickly becoming a have and have-not society, rather than the colorful vinnette we had, just 40 years ago.
Well, even on that, we are, unfortunately, stuck in a society that dictates that to wish ill of anyone is to be a horrible person. And indeed, its ridiculous that we want to continue with our lifestyle, in order to snuff out another society’s chance at the same state. But you know what? Thats the way the world works, no matter how many golden gilded words you pass over it.
And you’re right: The problem is that it isn’t a current crisis, and we have a really horrible record with thinking ahead.
