From Feburary 23 through the 27th, 2006 I’ll be in the UK for a magic convention. After the convention is over, I want to go to Amsterdam. Can anybody suggest what are the best ways to make this trip? I’m talking about affordable ways. I don’t know anything about modern Europe so I’m not sure if taking a train is reasonable, or driving, or just grabbing a plane ride. Time limit is of no concern. Starting December 17th I stop being a Marine and become a full time proffesional Magician. Which buys me some free time, and I’m making sure I get no States side gigs during that time frame.
hello master magician
i reckon a plane would be one of the easiest options if you plan ahead a bit … you can get a cheap flight on ryanair, virgin or something like that
you can take the train beneath the channel but i think it’s quite expensive and a bit complicated because you’ll go through france and belgium to get to the netherlands… it’s doable though
another option is to take the ferry (without or without car) to one of the coast cities in france or belgium (calais or zeebrugge respectively, but zeebrugge is closer) and then drive north to amsterdam
this last bit can be a bit of a problem because they’re working on the speedway ring around antwerp and you might get lost somewhere in the middle… unless of course you take the ferry in zeeuws vlaanderen (terneuzen i think) to the other side of the river (schelde) to vlissingen and then drive north to amsterdam… this way you’ll evade antwerp
it can still get messy driving though, if you’re not used to our roads…
belgium has one of the tightest road networks in the world and i guess the netherlands aren’t far behind
cheers
