dreamsforsale.net has been around since September of last year. The forums drew in about 150 members, and we were decently active for awhile.
I recently lost the forums by tampering with files i should not have tampered with (DOH!), and i just reinstalled and reskinned these new ones.
I’ve been registered and posting at these forums for afew months now, and I would really appreciate it if you guys checked out the site. It’s emphasis is more for political debate, although we do have a section for philosophy.
Thanks a ton Ben for paving the way - i’ve had your site in our links section since the day DFS opened (the link isn’t up right now since the site isn’t completely finished yet, but i’m working on it :p)
I’ve frequent DreamsForSales.net for a good while. I haven’t since I came back from the boat in January, but I liked it. Nostalgia has a pretty cool design going on. I’ll vouch for the site. At first I thought Nos was going to be a one time spammer, or be like certain whistling-philosophical talents. I say give it a chance. I have a pretty good chess game going on over there for a while.
Have I ever told you that the Sir Winston Churchill qoute you use was what inspired me to create The XXI Empire of Mind & Reason? Super-long story behind why I used that as the un-official motto for XXI, but yeah.
Of ILP? I don’t know - people started coming here because it’s so populated, but i would be interested to know how Ben got his first 300
Any tips? Should i be engaging in the debates (right now i definately do, and if i didn’t i am sure we wouldn’t even have half the posts that we do), or will people think i am being biased?
I have often wondered what was Ben’s formula for success when it came to ILP. I’m pretty sure that the name had a lot to do with it. I read more books of business than I do of philosophy, and having the right name, and right location are essential in making any venture work. Even though ILP isn’t in for profit, it has the right formula for success.
My other theory is that there were enough people involved to offer intellegent debates. They knew what they were talking about, or at least they sounded like they did. It is always amazing when somone posts a long drawn out post about something. And they sound right. But then someone else, usually either Ben, Gadfly, Marshall, Polymarchus, or Trix (among the few) would just reply with sources proving that person wrong. I find it amazing. It keeps me hooked!
Also I think the ability for those that want to debate, but can’t hang with the big boys and discuss nishilism and if it is justified, come over to the rant forum and mundane babble. It gives them room.
Also, I think that Ben has had international connections with Academics and intellectuals from around the world.
The quote should have been I did have a pretty good chess game going. Nos unwillingly ended the old DFS forum. But it has been progressing since I started to go there again on April 5.
Anyone willing to let me know how they first go on ILP? Or is my humble question getting ignored?
